and as well also Harry's place where they had that good band and that Negro singer As for the girls they were too busy looking around at the boys, I think to see much of the sceneryzat night but I think they liked the little negro boys the best I mean the ones who used todance for the girls when they gave them pennies Perhaps, Mr Canavan will always remember the ni ht he found some strange boys, who got lost, in bed with Harold Dennis nDennyn himselfnms the one that got the biggest surprise though when he woke up and found that big fat boy sleeping next to him But Mr Canavan brought everything under control nicely thank you, Mr Canavan All in all our stay at the Annapolis Hotel was a pleasant one I don't know whether or not the man agement felt the same way We had only one complaint about the hotel and that was the powdered eggs that appeared every mornin Next, I think a good suggestion to the management would be to pu stronger beds into the rooms John Delargy intends to send that course! by accident and he had to sleep on the floor that night That's about all we can relate about Washington without letting out any secret information I am afraid we would have Senator Wheeler's Crime Investigating Com ittee censoring this report if we did Friday morning we left for New York, the first dav of rain we had during the entire trip During this train ride most of the girls slept, all except a few who found some boys from Auburn whose talk was sufficiently interesting to keep the girls' e es open all the way from Washington to New York I won't mention any names but one of the girls was Betty Hanson As for the boys they continued with their usual pastime of playing cards However a couple of boys were missing most of the trip It seems they could be found in the Mendon Car with a ublonde bombshelln whom we called Marylyn Monroe On arriving in New York we went di rectly to our hotel It was a palace compared with the Annapolis Hotel in Washington After unpacking and dining, we went to Radio City Nusic Hall, where we saw HRbse Marie',at NSC we saw Eddie Fisher in person For the rest of the evening we strolled about Times Square, and then back to the hotel but not to bed although I don't think we got to sleep until the Nween hours of the morning Saturday morning we went shopping on Broadway where the boys all bought tall black hats George Janeczek looked as if he had just come from an undertakers' convention Fbur that afternoon we left for Springfield and home I know that everyone enjoyed the trip Ve would be readv any time to go again The Seniors all agree that the chaperones were wonderful for going with us and we would all like to say NThank Youn to Mrs Day and Mr Canavan 1 LJ . 1 .J 3 . fn . WNAXQU-IUIUCISUCDRJ I guess all the Seniors will remember that bright sunny day on April 20, the special day to which we had looked forward all year long. All the seniors were gathered outside of the high school at 6:50 that morning. Was anyone late? Oh - welll People who were going by in cars to work or else where gawked at us in bewilderment.I guess they had never seen us in such finery before There stood the boys dressed in their new suits with red, pink, and yellow neckties Beside them stood the beautiful girls in new dresses, fav topcoats, bedecked with corsapes :ent in cars to Springfield, where we boarded a train for New York When we pot off the train in Grand Central station, we felt lost amid the throngs of people that were milling around We had a feeling that people were staring at us Could it be we d1dn't appear at home in the big city and they took us to be their ncountry cous1ns9' The boys in our group were pawking at the high buildings, as the irls were buzzing with excitement Because we had to wait a short vhile for a bus to New Jersey, we were allored to go outside to get something to eat All the boys, fifteen in number, went in one group Finally we spotted, however as soon as we had entered, a smiling man dressed in a formal black suit sreeted us He led us down glossy stairs Lin single file! through a maze of mirrors, brilliant glass chandeliers and other fancy decorations Finally we were seated in a dimly lighted room vith gleaming white candles on the tables We didn't know just what to do, or what to say All that we wanted was a hamburg, when here we were in a place where one served a full course dinner At last, Johnathan took the situation in hand He asked the waiter if there was any minimum or cover charge The waiter replied that there wasn't, but that anything we ate we would have to pay at least three dollars for This was too much for us and so we promptly stood up and the whole fifteen of us marched back through the underground palace and out the door As the head waiter waved frantically at us, amazed at our sudden departure, his words nWhat's the matter? What's the matter9n were trailing after us as the door closed Then came the train fide to Washingtom, I think the boys will remember the card games we had, especially the boys who lost their britches remember We had to get adgusted to sleeping together and during the process there was a wild time I think Bill Jackson will testify to that Most of our days in Washington were spent tour ing ell ve remember the climb up the Nashinvton Monument, the beautiful scenes at ht Vernon, the visit to Annapolis, and the many hours we had to spend waiting in line to see some of these historic places It seemed as though there were a million other Groups from other schools in Iashington at that time We had some of our nights free after coming back from tourinp,so that we went looking around Jashinvton where we found some very interest ing places I am sure that the boys will never forget nDawwood's P1ace', where they served those 'juicy hamburgsn and milk, O O -, M, A 3 q W9 'ul ' , 0 Jn J O ' - O I ' 4.
