The lessons he taught, both of scientific knowledge and hu- man relationships were practiced not only in school but in his private life. Because we are grateful for the sense of hu man dignity and pride he helped us gain we are dedicating this record of a school year . . . a year that was better because of a strong and sensitive teacher. W l 4 W 5 RobinGaston Gaston Brings New Ideas To Harding Mr, Robin Gaston needs no introduction. Students and faculty both have respected and relied on his dependability this year. A former teacher and counselor, Mr. Gaston approached the responsibility of being a principal with new ideas and concepts. One of his main objective' goals was to have a school environment where the rights, dignity, and worth of each individual are important and accepted. Hardirg is proud to have had Mr. Robin Gaston as their principal during the 1970-'71 school year. As respected as he is competent, Mr. Gaston added self-respect and dignity to Harding's image. Robin Gaston and Maria Martinez Cooper And Hodges Work With Students OLL IE COOPER This year Harding has had two experienced and well-qualified vice principals, Ollie Cooper and Bill Hodges. Their main responsibilities were to maintain discipline among students. Mr, Hodges worked with the seventh and eighth grade while Mr. Cooper worked with the ninth grade class. Often these two men were seen at extra-curricular activities and have become two of the most well- known and respected members of the Harding faculty. BILL HODGES Counselors Aid Kids In Solving Problems Harding's three counselors, Chloe Shinn, seventh gradeg Harold Greenwood, eighth gradeg and Major Wilson, ninth grade, help students with their school problems. This not only includes schedule changes but per- sonal problems too. The counselors follow each class until they graduate, For example, last year Mr. Wilson was the eighth grade counselor and this year he was the ninth grade counselor. Next year he will be the seventh grade coun- selor. By following this plan each counselor can get to know more students well during their three years at Harding Junior High, .ji-H Cl-ILOE SHINN, 7th Grade Counselor HAROLD GREENWOOD, 8th Grade Counselor MAJOR WILSON, 9th Grade Counselor FRANCES PINE, Principa1's Secretary BERNICE ROGERS, Secretaryg and MARY ANNE BUTLER, Attendance Secretary PX MINA DAXON, Registrarg and VERA DUDLEY, Financial Secretary 5 MARY DEANE STREICH, Director Media Center GLORIA DICKINSON, Materials Clerk DELORES BOGAN, Instructional Clerk EVELYN ESPE, Library Clerk 'Teacher Corps members Dwight Jones, Jerry O'Hare, Mike Engel, David Morgan, Zarah Curry, and Phil Bennett Harding Teachers Care About Kids The European democracy of . . . faj1f2f-35a . .. Who were the gallant informers of wisdom to which these students may attribute their headful of know- ledge? Teachers, of course! Tall ones, short ones, thin ones, plump ones, hip ones, squares: different teachers added great variety to the quality of education at Harding this year. Every student is grateful in his own way for the things he learned from these teachers . . . not only knowledge from books, but things such as human relations, daily problems, and hopefully, common sense. -jf- I ., MARIORIE MILLER, Latin PEGGY HARRIS, Registered Nurse - Q , w . li. 1 ,11111 MILDRED MARSON, English and Germany CHERYL CHATT, Scienceg and LADDIE NETHERCUTT, Science. We're Moving On Up This year Harding added an elective for ninth grade girls interested in competi- tive sports. The freshman girls' sports class concentrated on preparing teams to compete against other junior high schools in Oklahoma City. The sports included soccer, volley- ball, swimming, track and field, bas- ketball, softball, tennis and badminton. As all eighth grade girls were required to take physical education, a competi- tive program could only be provided when time allowed for practices after school. Any girl enrolled in a regular class could try out for the teams. Activities for the year included volley- ball, soccer, basketball, swimming, and track and field.
