SC LS are educational call letters designating the four corners of the flaming torch pin so proudly worn by some fifty Harding seniors who are members of National Honor Society. An induc- tion service was held April ll, in the Lunchroom at eight o'clock. Four members of the Harding faculty, Miss Stafford, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Lisak and Miss Turner, explained the Cardinal Principles. Mr. Gatchell challenged this l5 Z, of the upper third of the senior class scholastically, to remember that there was a 5lst person on the list, and to feel the honor so keenly that at 2' 4' ' Miss Freer explains the s-gniffcance ofthe National Honor Society emblem. Valedictorian Chuck Kaelber and Sa- lutatarian Mary Larsen are congratu- lated by Mr. Gatchell. Coy. all times each would uphold the trust bestowed. Pat Neighbors was recognized as a transfer. Doctor Brown spoke of the high hopes held for each senior by parents, faculty and friends and requested that all take Christ, the greatest scholar of all ages, with them everywhere through life. Chapter Sponsor, Miss Freer, told that our Art teacher, Miss Ley, had designed the pin at the time NHS was established in l92l. At the conclusion of the service all stood to take the pledge, after which Becky Lawson, accompanied by Mary Larson, sang Honor Society. Secretary Miss Foreman witnessed the signatures placed in the record book which indeed contains many names since the estab- lishment of the Harding chapter in l925. General congratula- tions were in order at the informal hour with Mrs. Drake, Miss Brown and their girls acting as hostesses. 9
