ENSEMBLES . . . THE BRASS SEXTET Tom Tatham, Jim Larsen, Jim Lytle, John Cheney, Gene Winters, Fred Halt The outstanding musicians ol the band, orchestra. and A Capella Choir formed various instrumental and vocal ensembles. The brass sextet, composed ot two trumpets, ci French horn, a baritone, a brass horn, and a trombone, and the clarinet quartet were picked lrom the members ol the band by Homer Huffman, the instructor ol instrumental music. The string and vocal ensembles were chosen from the orchestra and A Capella Choir. respectively. First and second violins, cellos, o bass, violas, and a piano malce up the string ensembles. The nine girls, three altos, three mezzo-sopranos, and three first sopranos, are under the direction ol L. G. Jones. Once a year the school devotes one entire assembly period to ensemble groups. The main event at the year, however. lor the instrumental groups, was the annual trip to Den- ison University at Granville, Ohio. Most at the year was spent in preparation tor the iudging and rating ol mu' sicianship that talres place there every spring. They were really proud ol their ratings which were as lollows: the brass sextet, excellent? the clarinet quartet, superior: and the string ensemble, superior.
