All-Conf. HARDING 22 EL RENO 0 ln the first home game of the season, llarding shut out a highly rated El Reno team 22-O. This was the first time in forty-nine games that the Indians had been held score- less. 'l hroughout the entire game the Eagles never met with real trouble, and they pulled off a scoring drive early in the first quarter covering approximately sixty yards. The drive ended on a forty-yard pass from Quarterback Don Roberts to llalfbaek jerry Lehman. lil H0110 was never able to muster together a serious threat, and they were not able to penetrate past the Hard- ing twenty-yard line during the entire.gaine. In the fourth quarter the lndians were pushed deep into their ow11 terrie tory by the strong forward wall of the liagles. There they were forced to punt out of trouble, but Quarterback Roberts took the punt and ran forty-eight yards to elimax Ilardings scoring. HABDINC 22 In the opening game of the 1958 football season, the Harding Eagles rallied in the last half to defeat an under- rated Southeast team. After being picked as strong fa- vorites to win the game, the Eagles found themselves going uphill most of the way. Southeast scored early in each of the first two quarters, but Harding was able to make only one touchdown in that amount of time. SOUTHEAST 16 The second half, however, was a different story. Return- ing from the halftime break, the Eagles showed new de- termination. Their offensive plays began to work with precision, and their defense never gave Southeast another chance. This game marked the beginning of another fine foot- ball season for Harding.
