HISTCDRY OF THE CLASS CDF '39 XVe. the class of l930. have come to the greatest day of our school life- ottr graduation day. And. as we look back over our high school years. we realize that the enjoyable hours spent together in wholesome comradeship are soon to be ended. Our thoughts wander back. through the winding. never- ending paths of Memory l-ane. is Pk at XVe were charter members of Harding High. and how we did hope that we would be the Hrst graduating class? But fate said. NoT ln the ninth grade. otir class took part in the clubs and societies that were organized Nye chose a committee to decide whether or not we would have class pins. and the result was negative On February l-l. the hrst King and Queen ol Hearts were chosen and both were members of our classl ln the Spring. we gave an Faster party in the rchool building with Jim Hunter. class president. acting as Master of Ceremonies Our first year at Harding closed with the publication of ottr year book. THE ACORN. if if Ik 31 At the beginning of the tenth grade. we elected oflicers and all of them were girls Margaret Kleckley. Hannah Campbell. Gertrude Norman. and Doris Knox. This was the year in which the physical education department was organized A number of our girls played on the soccer team. and the boys showed a great interest in basketball Raymond Beaver. who has been on the basketball team for four years. was elected captain. Doris Knox was chosen the outstanding student in the class. The drawing up of a constitution for our student government by a committee of four students. and two faculty advisers. marked the end of that eventful year. Our eleventh year of labor opened with the hrst election of officers for the Student Council Margaret Kleckley. vice-president. and Gertrude Norman. secretary. both held their ofnces for two semesters-a fact which is quite a record. The lltgh-Lights staff gave a party at the Kleckley's cabin on the river. and. although there were but few of us on the staff. most of the class managed to get themselves invited Wlaat pull we Juniors must have had. Our junior year ended in a whirlwind with the junior-senior banquet. and the realization that at last ottr year of seniority was drawing nigh. :lf 151 if flf '39, the year of years. At the very Hrst of school. we began experiencing thrills that can never be known by any but Seniors And when our rings arrived in October. there was just no use trying to keep us down In the Fall the class had a wiener roast that was really fun . .Our pictures for the annual were taken and turned out remarkably well-considering the damp weather. Francis Fowler made an excellent president for our Student Council during the nrst semester. In January. Frank Ramseur was elected president of the Stu.dent Council after a close race with Russell Criminger and Francis Fowler . The senior play. given March 24. was a great success. .The characters: Russell Criminger. Hannah Campbell. Raymond Beaver, Frances Welsla. Norma Jeanne Gardner. David Conrades. Eloise Abernathy. Doris Knox. Jack Christensen. Frank Ramseur. Dorris Smith. Preston Parker. all turned in fine performances. and made Call Me Mike go down in the history of our class. The ACORN is a bigger and better book this year than ever before-due to the hard-working editor. Eloise Abernathy and her fine staff .We're proud of our annual. The junior-senior banquet was a joy to attend. and we appreciate it. juniors. more than we can say .The last days of our high school life were crowded with eventful moments. .The commencement sermon by Dr. Albert S. Johnson. our senior breakfast and class day. June l. and the day of all days. June 2- our graduation day. In parting may we say to the faculty and to the school. Thanks for every- thing that you have done to make our school life a present help and a pleasant memory. MARJORIE DREWES, Class Historian.
