Laurie O'Dowd and friend decide to sit this one Our. - photc by Eddie Madden In the academic area, the outstanding program in the natural sciences and mathematics was further strengthened by the $1.85 million addition to the Science Building. Especially strengthened were the computer science, science education, and mathematics education facilities. The program in mass commun- ication was strengthened by combining the Journalism and Speech Departments into the Communication Department. For the first time, the Master of Science in Accounting degree was offered, designed to attract students with a liberal arts major as well as those with a business major. New efforts were made by the University to facilitate student recruitment and new efforts were made to improve student retention. New programs for orientation of freshmen and transfer students were introduced including the one week of special chapels for the 'inew students. A Marketing Club was organized for marketing majors and other in- terested students. With the beginning of the 1984 fall semester, Harding began a new historical era - beginning of the second 50-year period in Searcy. the University expressed its appreciation to Searcy and White County during the third week in October for the outstanding support given during the first 50 years. . x c c e a 1 r n u l u lift; wu' u '74 .e- l wL .L RHHEL Chi Just a Swinging.
