A Resume and a Propheey' IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII OUR YEARS have passed, the greatest four years of our lives thus far, and the class of Nineteen comes to its gradua- tion. Our feelings present a paradox. We are glad to go and seek a place of service and yet there steals from each heart a sigh when we think of leaving the beloved scenes and associations of our Alma Mater. We find here a something, an indefinable, in- vincible something that shall shape and flavor our lives a.nd,: we hope, give distinction and character to our class. As Seniors weuhave found that the greatest thing about Simmons College is not her cam- pus, not her faculty, not her ' student body, but her spirit. The traditions, legends, and .memories clustering about the Old College campus seem to have linked themselves with the friendliness and optimism of the West to form an individuality, a college spirit that carries with it the hall-mark of its own excellence. On the horizon of a not too distant future we see the dawn of a new day for our Alma Mater. Simmons is to be a university. As she grows so shall her spirit. The purple and the gold shall take on added meaning. The purple dawning of each new sun shall be but the prophesy of a bigger and grander Simmons ere the gold of evening casts its spell over light-hearted students strolling on the campus beautiful. e T Nineteen

Twenty To Simmons Students Everywhere OUR ALMA MATER has Wrought and served for more than a quarter of a century. You have seen her grow from a struggling Academy to a standard- A-1 institution, ranking in numbers and literary merit with the best institutions of the Southland. I-Ier sons and daughters are found in every field of legitimate endeavor, in both civil and military pursuits, around the world. The phenomenal growth, spirit, and influence of Simmons Col- lege is in a large measure due to her noble sons and daughters, who have uniformly borne the Simmons 'cbrandn that has become so manifest Wheresoever duty has 'called them. lt is your province to live and serve in the greatest age that has ever co.me to the peoples of the earth. These are times that try menis souls and challenge them to their highest in efficiency and best in service. I am expressing the hope that no Worthy World task shall come to any of you and you not prove morally and in- tellectually eqnal to it. The eyes of thousands of men and Women are upon you, and your Alma Mater believes in you to the last limit. Your College is facing the future with an optimism and a con- fidence peculiar to her past and commensurate with the section in which she is located and the age of which she is a potential part. I am calling upon you to lend yourselves in time, money, and co- oper-aiit sympathy to the tasks' now devolving upon those of us in authority to make the Old Scl1ool ' measure up in equipment, in- fluence, and service to its noble founder, and to Him who is the author of Christian ideals that makes culture Worthwhile. I congratulate the outgoing Senior Class on its opportunity to do the big things for its Alma Mater and the World. May no Sim- mons student ever be satisfied to do the little thing. I call upon you for your best and I confidently feel that only your best will satisfy tw you.
