VCDLUNTEER FIREIVIEN ARE SERVICE ORGANIZATION The call on the intercom, Would the firemen please report to the office? brings a chill to the hearts of many because it could be their home or property that is endangered. The young men from high school who belong to this volunteer organization do not just suddenly rush off to aim a water hose at a fire. They are much more highly trained. Weekly meetings are held to teach them modern fire-fighting techniques. Not only do these volunteers for community service fight fires, they are also in charge of emergency ambulance calls. All of them are trained in CPB to help heart attack victims, and it is not unknown for a baby to be delivered on the way to the hospital. To raise money to support their services, the group holds an annual barbecue. Also, on Old Timers' Day, they sell their famous barbecue at a booth, and as a special treat for the youngsters, they give rides around Sour Lake on the fire truck. Helping to kick off Little League season this year, the Firemen played the Little League coaches a game of baseball and again offered rides for the little people. As a service project, the Firemen stationed themselves at the four-way stop sign and other strategic areas to collect money for the Muscular Dystrophy Fund. High School students who are members of the Volunteer Firemen include Joey Butts, Cory Brannon, Shad Priddy, William Monse, Todd Johnson, Paul Austin, George Golston, Ross Camp, Vincent Gongora, Wayne Miller, and Brett Johnson. 1 4 4 I 4 1 l 1 4 s I J I I I 1 I Firemen collect money for Muscular Dystrophy. ff 1 I l I I I fl ll :gi fl Being a fireman is not all work.
