FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES IS INSPIRED ORGANIZATION The purpose of any huddle of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes is to present to athletes and coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church. The huddle, as the group is called, is made up of athletes or those associated closely with an athletic team. Meetings are held twice monthly at members' homes. These meetings are a time of Bible study and sharing of concerns, ideas, and ideals as they relate to each person's life. The Hardin-Jefferson FCA sponsored a Fun Bun during Old Timers' Day. lt was a lot of planning and hard work, but the kids did work hard and it turned out to be a big success. We look forward to an even bigger run next year, said Coach Greg Dupree. The group visited several area churches. It is a nondenominational group, so that any person is welcome. Several members plan to attend a National Conference this summer at Texas A8tM University in College Station. This is billed as a week of inspiration and perspiration. Through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes ordinary people help each other become better people and better examples of what God can do with a yielded life. t t. , W2 Wt wi Z , f- 45 , , f J FCA officers are Shawn Brantley, Jason Barker, Tommy Low, Ed Murray, and Paula Ellison. VCDLUNTEER FIREIVIEN ARE SERVICE ORGANIZATION The call on the intercom, Would the firemen please report to the office? brings a chill to the hearts of many because it could be their home or property that is endangered. The young men from high school who belong to this volunteer organization do not just suddenly rush off to aim a water hose at a fire. They are much more highly trained. Weekly meetings are held to teach them modern fire-fighting techniques. Not only do these volunteers for community service fight fires, they are also in charge of emergency ambulance calls. All of them are trained in CPB to help heart attack victims, and it is not unknown for a baby to be delivered on the way to the hospital. To raise money to support their services, the group holds an annual barbecue. Also, on Old Timers' Day, they sell their famous barbecue at a booth, and as a special treat for the youngsters, they give rides around Sour Lake on the fire truck. Helping to kick off Little League season this year, the Firemen played the Little League coaches a game of baseball and again offered rides for the little people. As a service project, the Firemen stationed themselves at the four-way stop sign and other strategic areas to collect money for the Muscular Dystrophy Fund. High School students who are members of the Volunteer Firemen include Joey Butts, Cory Brannon, Shad Priddy, William Monse, Todd Johnson, Paul Austin, George Golston, Ross Camp, Vincent Gongora, Wayne Miller, and Brett Johnson. 1 4 4 I 4 1 l 1 4 s I J I I I 1 I Firemen collect money for Muscular Dystrophy. ff 1 I l I I I fl ll :gi fl Being a fireman is not all work.
