OEA STUDENTS NEEDED FOR BUSINESS SUCCESS Activities of the Hardin-Jefferson Office Education Association included installation of officers at First City Band of Sour Lake in September. Officers elected were Sheila Lindsey, president, Beth Baird, vice presidentg Addie White, secretary, Agnes Harmon, treasurer: Lana Brown, reporterg Michelle Martel and Thonda Tatum, historians, Sondra Hall, parliamentarian, and Alexa Spears, sergeant-at-arms. New members were initiated at the September meeting also. Members sold candy as a fall fund-raising project and took care of the plants in the building as a service project for the school. Students participated in homecoming week activities and Sour Lake Old Timers' Day. OEA also sponsored a mock national election in November. Professional improvement speakers included Dr. Nancy Darsey of Lamar University and Ms. Deborah Walker of Top Talent Temporaries. Christmas was celebrated at Red Lobster Restaurant in Beaumont. The Employers' Appreciation Banquet was held in February, and members worked at the Golden Triangle Special Olympics in May. Regional contest winners included Sheila Lindsey, Beth Baird, Barbara Shields, Lana Brown, Robert Presley, Rhonda Tatum, Ellie Brottem, and Vicki Douglas in Parliamentary Procedures, Agnes Harmon, Sondra Hall, Michelle Martel, and Alexa Spears in Chapter Activities Scrapbookg Addie White in Records Management, Glenda Foux and Andrea Thomas in Promotional Display. At state OEA in Austin, the parliamentary procedures team won first place and advanced to the OEA national contest in Houston, where they placed third. The 1984-85 school year was a very good year! GAIN KNOWLEDGE Students take an employment test administered by Ms. Walker, guest speaker. Kelly Shaw and Rhonda Hamm laugh at their OEA valentines. Q 2 Q? X
