Havvk Track Team Moves Rapidly The varsity boy's track team had a very outstanding season. The team consisting of seniors Reggie King, Terrance Thomas, Sherman Lemeile, Rocky Rocquemore, and Doug Carmon, juniors Lou Cappi, Gordon Guillory, Robert Harmon, Darryl Hunter, Ed Murray, Troy Schlottman, Karl Stelly, and Todd Walker, sophomores Bee Guillory, Jeff Julian, Robert Sirmons, and Jonathan Vaughn progressed along the year from finishing an average of seventh and eighth place in meets to finishing as high as third in the Anahuac Relays. Robert Sirmons, Mike Thomas, and Reggie King have to be considered the most outstanding track athletes for their achievements. The 400 meter relay made up of Terrance Thomas, Bee Guillory, Sherman Lemeile, and Reggie King had outstanding performances throughout the year capping off the season by finishing second in district and earning a berth to the regional track meet in Brenham, Reggie King, a participant in last year's state meet had a good season running in the 100, 200, and 400 meter runs finishing in the top three in every meet he went to this year. Mike Thomas, converted from sprinter to distance man this year, also had a great year in the events he entered, the 800 and 1600 meter runs. He also ran the anchor leg on the mile relay team. This relay team consisted of Thomas, Karl Stelly, Todd Walker, and Sherman Lemelle. Robert Sirmons has to be considered the most improved runner this season. After having a mediocre beginning, finishing in the bottom three, he gradually increased to where he was finishing in the top three in the 3200 and 1600 meter runs, Robert came back to finish third in the mile run. He also qualified to compete in Brenham running the 3200 and 1600 meter runs. Other participants and their events were Terrance Thomas, 100 meter relay, Jonathan Vaughn, cross country, 1600, and 3200 meter runs, Ed Murray, 800 meter run, Karl Stelly, 400 and 1600 meter relay, Sherman Lemeile, 400 and 1600 meter relay and 400 meter dash, Todd Walker, 400 and 1600 meter relay, Lou Cappi, 110 and 300 hurdles, Jeff Julian, 110 and 300 hurdles, Bee Guillory, 100, 200, and 400 meter relay, Rocky Rocquemore, long jump and high jump, Troy Schlottman, shot put and discus, Gordon Guillory, discus, Darryl Hunter, shot put, Doug Carmon, shot ut, Robert Harmon, 100, 200, and 400 meter relay. Joe Vaughn accepts his third-place trophy in the Cross Country District meet. Robert Sirmons closes in on the lead.
