At state Hurbert Dawes, Martin Old Crow, and Ken Edmo placed 6, 9, and 15 and the boys' team was fourth. Susan Kollekowski and Laurie Ferder reached the top 20, a first for Hardin girls, the team placed 7th. Over the two month season Hardin's Cross Country teams consistently brought home medals. Probably the highlight of the regular season was winning the 1st Little Dig Horn Run. Cross Country was a season of running. Doug Freeman, Martin Old Crow, Susan Kollekowski, Donna Arbogast. At the beginning of the season, in non-conference play, it looked as though we might be headed in the right direction. But, as the season progressed, we lost games by one or two points. Unfortunately, as the season grew longer, so did the margin of differences,. Even though we didn't have much luck at winning, we never got bored. Initiations were given to the new coach along with three new sophomore players. This consisted of being thrown In a cold shower, clothes and all. Bus trips, by themselves, were just terribly exciting. Between all the breakdowns, the relating of stories about everyone's weekend kept us pretty well occupied. With gossip, jokes and weekends, the losing of ballgames could not get us down. We were a good team that had a problem that is yet to be solved. We had a young team and it was difficult to measure up to teams consisting of all seniors. We have alot of pride representing Hardin High, but our pride can't do it all. Do us a favor and keep the faith for a better year—next year. 10 Page Sponsor: Ben Franklin Seniors in LOWER RIGHT: Sandy Wagner Ronda Rider Janean Koebbe Cheryl Old Elk Coach Breitmeier 11 Football BACK ROW: Coach Willis, Donovan Lytle, Paul Vandersloot, Bret Barnes, Scott Hartung, Lyndon Conroy, Jack Muhlbeier, David Pitsch, Mark Johnson, Mark Anderson, Coach Kennedy. Great season guys!!! The Hardin football team had a successful season with a 6-2 overall record and a 6-1 conference record. We only gave in to the Sidney Eagles and Dillon Beavers with both games having a 7-19 score. The high point of the season for the Bulldogs is when Hardin defeated Butte Central, 25-15 in the Mining City for the first time in Bulldog history. Hardin wrapped up second place in conference race by defeating Lewis-town 26-14 in a smashing game on the home field. Honors go to Jack Muhlbeier and Mark Anderson who both made All-State Class A first string. Jack ran all the way through the season. Mark kicked more than twenty points this season, more than many running-backs scored. Co-captains for the Hardin Bulldogs were Seniors Jack Muhlbeier and Mick Kennedy. The Bulldogs had a Season of Success. Although losing Seniors Lyndon Conroy, Jack Muhlbeier, Dana Old Coyote, and Leonard Landire ,there will be a good nucleus of experienced Juniors returning next year, hoping for an even better season. The most impressive sight was the Cathedral, all were awed by its magnificence. The most painful part of the trip was through the Federal Reserve Bank, watching all the money being destroyed. The armed guards were more than enough to ward off any temptation though. At the Capitol, the House and the Senate were tied in the running as the most interesting while the Senate held a solid last. Fhe Choirs The Concert Choir and the freshman chorus The Dawning Point had a busy year. They presented the annual Christmas Concert in December. Throughout the year various small groups from the choirs sang at local functions. One Chosen Few group sang at the Shrine Auditorium in Billings. The choirs took several groups and soloists to the District Festival in Billings. Again this year everyone from the Concert Choir who went to the Festival in an Ensemble went to the State Festival in Bozeman. At District the Concert Choir received a Superior Rating I and the Dawning Point received an Excellent Rating II. 1977 was a very productive year for the band. As a whole the band made a great improvement under the guidance of Mr. Boggio. All of the students enjoyed the year, even suffering through some yucky classical style pieces. It was a bit of a let down at the Divisional Music Festival, because the Concert Band received only an excellent rating II. There were two ensembles that did qualify for the State Festival in Bozeman though. The Marching Band did a Great job on the football field this year, as did the Pep Band during the Basketball season. The Jazz Band Participated in a clinic during the winter and the whole band went to Band Day at Rocky Mountain College in Billings. They brought home a trophy and were mighty proud. The first officers to be elected were President-Allison Steiger, Vice president-Kathi Kerr, Secretary Treasurer-Cari Croghan, and Historian-Jeff Sherman. Some of the projects the club took on were to buy a Speaker of the Year plaque, to send the club officers to the Jr, High for a Competitive Speech Demonstration, and in June of 1976 they sent Cari and Allison to a Debate Institute in Laramie, WY. Again this year the Speech Team, members of the club, brought home many honors throughout the season, including the Class A sweepstakes trophy from Glendive. They were embarassed when they goofed up cheers in front of large crowds and all agreed that best thing was flirting with the football, basketball players and of course the wrestlers. They liked getting involved in all of the sports, meeting new people, staying in motels and homes and going with the teams that represented our school. 56 Sponsor Page: Marvel's Beauty Salon Pom-Pon 58 Hardin High School Pom-Pom girls have participated in quite a few activities throughout the year of 1976-77. Members from the Hardin High School Indian Club presented an original Indian dance. Many of the Japanese were quite satisfied, happy, and immensely enjoying themselves, as did the students and the people of the community. As for the finale (the actual wrestling), the Japanese showed tremendous talents. None of the Japanese members were defeated, but a few were given good competition. BOTTOM LEFT: The typical Lyndon Conroy. BOTTOM RIGHT: A very enthused senior, Diane Lauderdale. Early one February morning the notorious outlaw gang, Bennie and the Jets flew into town and landed at Boles Aviation Service after knocking over the largest bank in Tuluca where they picked up a cool three million. Bret and Tracy went to Triangle Motors, Fox Oil, and Fox Servicecenter. When they had made their purchases, they met at the Chuckwagon for breakfast. Leslie deposited some of the money at the Little Horn State Bank while Bret went to Wyola Insurance and Tracy went to Insurance Service for insurance for the new cars. Bennie was sent to the Big Horn Bank to deposit the rest of the money while the rest of the gang went to the Western Motel to get a room for the night. Mick and Bill picked up some grub at the Hardin Meat Market. Bennie and Leslie went to pick up a few new things. The first stop was the Cloz Closet for a new outfit. Naturally he had to pick up some new material at the Federated store and oh what rocks at Koebbe's Jewelry. Then they all ran out to Hank's Husky to put some gas in the new cars. Bret and Tracy thought they would stop at Big Horn Drug to pick up a few niceties for the ladies back home. Perfume was their natural choice for a perfect present. They all met together at Dick's Drive-inn for a quick lunch and then Leslie was off to Kut-n-Kurl. When she was gone the boys decided that with her birthday coming up soon the perfect gift for Leslie would be a new home. They checked through the Hardin Herald and found one. But then there are all the details of getting a house in order so they had some business with MDU, Culligan, Ray's TV, Farmer's Union, Holmes Plumbing and Heating, Marshall Wells and Abell's Plumbing and Heating. J In order to decorate the drive-way of their new home, the Jets hurried down to Jaumotte Brothers and Merrimack Texaco and selected some new snowmobiles. From all that running around the cars once again needed gas. A quick stop at Bairs and Wagner's Conoco solved that. Mick thought he should blend in with the local culture so he went to Martin's Western Wear and bought a new hat. Then it was back to the Purple Cow for supper. ■ ■ The next morning they decided that sleeping on the floor was for the birds. They hopped on down to Solazzi's Furniture Store and bought a few thousand dollars worth of furniture. The guys thought that they should get some new clothes to fill their closets. Bret tried on shirts at Anthony's, Tracy, the chief cook, bought supplies for the new kitchen at Les's Food Farm. They were all in such a good mood that they went out to lunch at the Stockman. They moved on down to Hardin Photo Service to get a group portrait to hang on their living room wall. They soon rant out of food so Leslie and Bennie ran down to Bud's Freezer and Locker and picked up some grub. On the way home they stopped at Camp Custer to get some gas and pick up a few important things. Bill got lonely for his honey back home so he went down to Johnson's Drug and Jack's Pharmacy and bought a few presents for her. That night Bill and Tracy went driving around. They stopped at Lawrence's Conoco to buy some gas. On the way home they heard on KHDN radio that the police were after them. YOUR TROUBLES VANISH FORT rtf SMITH SERVICE CENTER You’re Sure Never to Get Tangled up When You Shop at YELLOWTAIL MARKET Fort Smith Because the police were after them, they took their cars to Roy's Body Shop to have them repainted for disguise purposes. Unfortunately Bennie took a wrong turn during the get away and ran into a telephone pole. Bennie is no more. Last rights were performed at Bull is Mortuary. Alas, who is left to comfort poor Leslie Leslie Bret Tracy Bennie Mick Bill •V '•
