Both Jolene Adams and Georgianna Thrower exhibit good form (bowling, that is) as well as throw a mean ball. The ball rolls down the alley, and then comes that moment of suspenseful waiting. They also serve who only stand (sit) and wait. 18 A strike in the making, yes! Letterman’s Club First row, L to R: Robert Nedens, Duane Heitzman, Jim Hyde, Mario Solazzi, Robert Koyama, Joe Pantoja, Walter Pantoja, Terry Sprenger, Gary Schoer. Top row; Bobby Uffleman, Karl Martin, Doug Peterson, Wayne Nayematsu, Dean Three Irons, Gail Three Irons. What is the Letterman's Club? The Letterman's Club is just what the name implies, a club composed of those boys who have earned a letter in some extra-curricular sports activity of Hardin Senior High School. What does it do? Well, first of all, the activities of the club are numerous; however, the most obvious activity of the club is that of dispensing confections at both the basketball games and the wrestling matches. Late in the afternoon of those days on which either a game or a match is to be held in the evening, members of the club adjourn to the cafeteria, where (obviously) they busily engage in setting up and cleaning both the popcorn machine and the soft drink dispenser. Less obvious, however, is the activity (with motive aforethought, perhaps) that is little less than sinister. Soon, the aroma of popping corn fills the cafeteria. By the time of the evening activity, the aroma has filled not only the cafeteria but also the hallways. Who can resist it? With that silent salesman at work, who needs a sales pitch? An extra dash of salt on that delicious popcorn, and soon the raid upon the soft drink dispenser has begun. What happens to the profits ?Unless has time to spare, he should never ask a letterman, for long after the listener has run out of time, that letterman will still be ticking off item after item (all beneficial to the school) that has been made possible because the lettermen properly tend their concessions. 19 FHA Kneeling, L to R: Myrna Blankenship, Kathy Kaiser, Carolyn French. Seated: Linda Lee, Billie Redding, Beth Miller, Nancy ManueL Standing, Row I: Donna Redding, Shari Delp, Paula Peters, Donna Dorn, Shari Miller. Row II: Kathy Fox, Margie Fox, Chris Knutz, Debbie Stevens, Sandi Pauley, Mrs. Martin, Chapter Adviser. 20 Winkum, one of the games played, proved to to be very exciting. Everyone is busy working to win the game at the Christmas Gift Exchange. At the pizza party everyone made his own pizza. FHA invited the FFA boys to this Christmas party. FHA Culminating the year's events is the FHA Parent-Daughter Banquet. Chapter Adviser, Mrs. Jane Martin, distributes first and second year pins to members of the chapter. Investiture of Officers. Billie Redding, out-going president, turns over to Carolyn French the insignia and the duties of chapter president. 22 Just before the Christmas vacation began, the FHA entertained the faculty at a tea. Miss Peters replenishes the supply. Mrs. Mary Martinsen depletes it. A feature of the tea was the display of the dolls that the FHA dressed for gifts to needy children. Mr. Harlin, Linda Lee, and Mrs. RieDeth examine the chapter handi-work. Linda Lee and Mrs. Martinsen look at more of the chapter handicraft, Christmas tree skirts. Chapter members enjoy a lallapaloosa party. What is a lallapaloosa ? If you don't know and I were to describe it, you wouldn’t believe. 23 Future Farmers of America Left to right, Row 1; D. During the course of the evening, for both the parents and special guests, the history of the chapter year is reviewed. Richard Dorn, winner of the chapter public speaking contest, for the benefit of the guests, delivers his winning speech. Another feature of the Parent-Son banquet is giving awards to those members who have made outstanding accomplishments during the chapter year. Mr. Ben Hurley, chapter adviser, presents to Robert Watson one of the several awards that Robert received. 25 Future Farmers of America ... More awards. Richard Nedens, Robert Kray, and Robert Watson are recipients. David Me Nancy receives from Mr. Hurley both an award and congratulations. 26 Chapter Greenhand initiation is always a major event within the chapter life of the Future Farmer. Here chapter greenhands get the good word from the chapter secretary. At right, greenhands await the signal to begin their visitation to each of the officer stations. Each year, a major item in the Future Farmer's Program of Work is Community Service, which involves many activities. One of these includes the beautification of public facilities. This past year, the chapter planted some evergreens on the grounds of the county courthouse. (Above) Tony Stark, Gary Greenwalt, Curtis O’Brien, and John Kraft put a juniper into place. (Below) Ron Pitsch, Casey Munter, and Richard Pantoja do tne honors. Row 2, bottom to top: Richard Solazzi, Pat Nurre, Dennis Fox, Scott Seely, Jim Hyde. Terry Sprenger. Lee Jackson, Steve Rider, John Kir-schenmann, Mr, Newville, Adviser. Dennis Fox 1968-69 Lt. Gov. Southern District Installing the asphalt runway to the jumping pit was only one of the many worthwhile projects of Hardin Senior High School's Key Club, an organization devoted to service. Another noteworthy project of the club is the operation of the hat and coat checkstand. For a small stipend, during basketball games and other sports activities in the multipurpose room (gym) of Hardin Senior High School, patrons of the activity are relieved from having to guard their hats and coats. The Key Clubbers perform that task. Still another worthwhile project of the past year was the re-marking of the parking area in front of the high school. Yes, those evenly spaced yellow lines leading diagonally outward from the sidewalk represent the thoughtfulness of the Key Club. When ushers were required to pilot the principals during the Sunday evening exercises honoring retiring teachers, the Key Club came forth with the necessary personnel. In their colorful Key Club jackets, the young fellows did themselves proud. Yet another Key Club project was that of acting as stage managers at the Custer Battle re-enactment, an event that attracts people from far and near. Custer, as usual, lost, but the Key Clubbers won—won commendation for the fine job that they did. Officers S.C.R. Karl Martin President Jim Hyde Secretary Vernon Nayematsu Treasurer Jim Wert man Vice-president Mario Solazzi To improve the track facilities of Hardin's Bulldogs, the Key Club installed an asphalt runway to the jumping pit.
