Thoughtful Words from Our Principal To the Annual Staff: The particular mark of the American High School is the comprehensive nature of its curricular and extracurricular facets of learning and activity. SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS H. R. Salyer This year the world has lost one of its greatest leaders, Winston Churchill, a highly educated, richly experienced man. His idea of what education’s aim should be is revealed by some advice he once gave to an audience of teen-age students. Never give in! he said, Never, never, never, never--ln nothing great or small, large or petty —never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.” Idealistic youth is sure to respond to such words; the young are attracted to whatever is noble. And so we are all fortunate when, through their studies and school life, young people's convictions of honor and good sense” are strengthened year by year. Youth has a right to encounter the words, the ideas, the lives of great thinkers and doers. Such exposure over the years will bring, we trust, high standards of performance and of conduct—and the will to never give in.” 5
