DEDICATION We of the annual staff .jel a deep sense of gratitude as we dedicate this 1954 BULLDOG to our parents. As we grow older many of us forget the love and kindness our parents have devoted to us during these early years of our life. We take this opportunity to thank them publicly for the many sacrifices they have made to further our education. During this past year, I have enjoyed my associations with children, parents, teachers and all the people who make up our school community. It has been a pleasant year with many gains and improvements. I hope that with your continued interest and cooperation we can move forward in providing the young people of our community with maximum opportunities to prepare themselves for their places in the world of tomorrow. H. R. SALYER PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Activities should have an educative value to be included in school affairs. This yearbook represents a great deal of individual and cooperative effort by the Senior Class and advisor. It is hoped the lessons learned in its production will be beneficial and its reading will bring back many happy memories of the school year of 1953-54. 3 ANNUAL STAFF Gene Lenhard, Gary Kaiser, Bob Warren, Katherine Jabs Gary Kaiser . . . Class Song: Room Full of Roses 30 THE BRIDGE We, the members of the senior class, and in particular the members of the annual staff take this opportunity to give a few words of inspiration to those who must come after us. Just as in the well known poem, the old man built a bridge for the youth that was to follow, we have in our way built a bridge also. We have departed from the old time-worn trails in our search for a better way. We have tried many new ideas and redone some old ones. We have had failures which we hope you have carefully noted least you also repeat these mistakes. We have had successes of which we are more than a little proud. We have set an example for you not just to follow but to exceed. We think you can do better than we did and we hope you do. This, therefore has been our Bridge . We hope it will ease your journey and that your bridge will be even better. 32 ANN GLORIA LAWRENCE BETTY JIM ABARR BALLENSKY BOWERS BUTORAC CLINE CECILIA COSTELLO t r VIOLET DAVIS DE LORIS DEWALD GLORIA LOIS LOUISE GERALD DON FARRAR FELLER FELLER FERGERSON GREENFIELD CAROL LARRY EVELYN HECKEL HEITZMAN HELLER 33 JOYCE HOWARD JIM MARY DARLENE HELZER HERT HERT HUMPHREY KERN ROSELLA EDDIE BARBARA GOLDIE KEN HILL KERN KING KIRSCHENMANN KURTZ BEVERLY LENNIS JUSTINE DIANA TEDDY '.ACKMAN LAMMERS LITTLE UGHT LUCERO MASON KAY MELBY JIM MEES MILLER MILLS 34 JOAN NIGRO PAT PAULSON BERNADETTE PERKINS BONNIE PITSCH GAY PITSCH ORVILLE ROBERT RONDEAU RUBY GEORGE RONALD ARLENE RUSSEL SCHELSKE SCHNEIDER 35 DAVID JOHN CLARA NADINE MARY SLOAN SLOAN STEWART STRICKER THOMPSON JANICE DOROTHY TOM JACK MARGUERITE TORSKE UFFELMAN VANDERSLOOT WATERHOUSE WATSON HELEN VIRGIL WOODLEY WILLIAMSON LEORA FRANK TONY CLOE ABELL ARREDONDO ARREDONDO BAD HORSE LARRY RUSSELL JOHN CARROLL BEARY BENTLEY BESEL BIRKLAND MARY EVELYN PEGGY ARTHUR BLANKENSHIP BROWN BUCKNER CARR FRANCES DAISY WAYNE CLAYTON CUNE COX 38 RONNIE BOB CAROL SONDRA DAVIS DOYLE DYSART EBELING JOAN RICHARD DOUGLAS VERLETTE EGNEW FITZPATRICK FLINT FRENCH BURT BOBBY LARRY JACK GUSTAFSON HARLIN HAUG HELMAN DALLAS ILEAN CAROL HERMAN HILL HUNTINGTON 39 BILL ROSALIE EDNA GEORGE JABS KAUTZMAN KELLER KENNEY DE LORIS KIRSCHENMANN MYRNA KRONMILLER DENNIS LENT PATTY KERN ANN RUTH SHARON JERRY LOANEY LOPEZ MAACK MARSHALL BEVERLY JEAN DICK MEHLING MILLER MILLER 40 BETTY ROGER ANN DAVID MORTON NORDQUIST PAINTER PITSCH DOUG BARBARA LAWRENCE FAY PITSCH POLSON REAL BIRD REDDING DON JANICE IRENE RONNIE RIDER SCHOEN SCHOER SCHROCK LAURA ADAM DOROTHY SHEPARD SINGER SLOUGH 41 BERT FERNE MIKE EDITH TORSKE TORSKE VOLK WAGNER TOM WEINBERG JOHN WEMPLE RAY WEMPLE NANCY WOLF CHARLOTTE JOYCE HARVEY YARLOTT ZEILER ZIMMERMAN 42 JUNIOR HIGH ARLENE ABELL CAROL ALLEN SHARON BEARY JANEAN BOWERS SYLVIA BRAVO HARLEY BRENDAL ROBERT BROWN SOPHIE BUECHLER INEZ C ARLETON CAROLINE COOK TOM COYNE MARY DELL CURRY LEONA DAVIS DIANA DEER NOSE RICHARD DENNY MARGARET DEVORE ELEANOR DEWALD 44 DEANNA DOYLE DONALD DREAMER SALLY DUMLER GERALD ELLIS LEROY ENZMINGER MARVIN ENZMINGER SHARON FERREL ROBERT FITCH PAULINE FORBES JEAN FOX DARLENE FR1CKEL DELMER GANSKE MAUDE GONZALES TOM GREENFIELD VERA HAMES WILLSON HAMMOND GARY HELLER RICHARD HELLER DARLENE HENNING 45 MELVIN HERT WXL W MOKMAJl- LAiwMffls UKSWtffl© MJSOItlii UAKfinr iWA!‘HJCB UlllLff? This sad neglect ended one bright day as the result of an idle search of our friend, Croghan. What is in a trunk, abandoned in an old deserted house ? Croghandis-covered what and began one of the most amazing adventures in the history of Hardin. The trunk contained money. A great deal of money. Not just dollars but thousands and thousands of them, all in neat little packages. More money than most people ever dream of. To whom does it belong? Well it was abandoned and isn't finders keepers 9 With the ownership settled, our hero did some deep thinking. What is money used for? So, this town would see buying as it had never seen. A million things were to be purchased and there was at least a million dollars to buy them. Why count it when you have so much? Good fortune should be shared. A telephone call brought Bob Warren on the run. Arrangements were also made to meet Katherine Jabs, Betty Marsh, Gene Lenhard, and Gary Kaiser later at a local restraurant. Their surmise was correct but in a manner they hardly expected. There were no stories of Croghan's good fortune. No description of his share-the-wealth schemes. No praise for his generosity. Instead, in horrible black headlines was a tale too shocking to believe. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN The individual pictured above is b'eing sought by the Hardin Police. In self-defense, to keep himself from the poor-house, Les arranged for the surrender of his ever hungry guest. Businessmen were satisfied with the return of all goods. How does it feel to be a millionaire and then lose it all ? No cars , no food, no T.V., no food, no luxuries, no food---with this sad situation we leave Croghan with Inez and Doug to shed a tear for the dreams that are ended. RICHARDSON-SMALL CO. INC.
