M44 qfwtoay Our hands were first clasped in friendship in the days of 'forty-nine, We had need of each other's encouragement to quiet our Freshman fears. Tho our hands were joined in bewilderment and shyness, we early decided that this friendship should blossom. As the result of this resolution, our Freshman year was notable for the dances and picnics we engaged in, In tenor our hands were clasped as we wandered through the labyrinth of the dark tor- ture chambers, where the Class of 1950 worked their evil designs on us poor unprotected Sophomores. The girls were prospectors, complete with dishpan for panning gold and toothbrush for cleaning the same. To brighten our dull prospectors, life, the boys ap- peared as dancehall gals with fetching gowns, banqles, and roses in their hair. Our excessive exuberance found expression in an extravaganza entitled ELMER, a one act comedy, which was presented to the entire student body at a school assembly. The sound of hands clapping in applause was music to our ears as the curtain closed on our Junior play, called FUNNY FACE. This comedy was, not only an artistic presenta- tion, but, happily, a monetary success. This play provided the funds for our memorable Qand also equally successful! Junior-Senior prom. The prom, itself, was based upon a showboat the me. V' Sadly we clasped hands in fond farewell. Our Senior year seemed all too short. Our ranks had been thinned from ninety-seven in our Freshman year to seventy-two in our Sophomore year, seventy-four in our Junior year, to our surviving seventy. We attempted to forget the sadness of our impending parting by engaging in one last round of festivities. Our first major event was the initiation of the Sophomores. In true Hardin tradition, we put them through a fortifying program. We taught them true humility by organizing a long underwear brigade. We taught them the simple pleas- ures by requiring fishing pole and jug, We taught them good grooming in the torture chamber with a can of paste. All this unselfish devotion to our under-graduates gave ' us the pleasurable feeling that comes only from a job well done.
