“
Published by the Annual Staff Hardin High School HARDIN, MONTANA We, the seniors, hope that, in scanning the pages of this annual, you may wander through the trails of time, and recall, once again, those happiest hours, the valued friends and best loved scenes whose memories are captured forever in the pic- tures of this book. THE STAFF ‘Dedication We, the Seniors, take great pleasure in dedicating this annual to Mrs. Riebeth and Mr. Fisher who have given so generously of their time and effort in promoting the welfare of the class of 1951. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Mrs. Minard and Mr. Robertson, without whose help this annual could never have been published. SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE The symphony is a musical composition calling forth the efforts of all choir sections of the orchestra. In similar manner the curricular and co-curricular activities of a modern high school have the same purpose. It depends upon the individual student how well he plays his part, and ultimately how he will fit into the great symphony of life. Sincerely, Elmer Skeie Superintendent PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE This year, as we say goodbye to the Seniors, who have become such an agreeable part of the peaceful life here at high school, we have disturbing thoughts. These girls and boys are leaving the shelters they have always known to go out where the traditional shelters of civilization are being violentl. and willfully wrecked. The world is not a safe place in which to build one's life. Our fervent hope is that the clean, happj experiences of school will build, that the goodness and knowledge derived from school will prove building materials sturdier than steel. Sincerely, H. R. Salyer Principal BOARD OF TRUSTEES Seated, left to right: Marjorie Staudenmyer-Clerk, V. H. Ross, Ronald Iverson. Standing: Paul Schaller, Chet Bounous, Superintendent Elmer Skeie, Sam Denny. MRS. In the year 1947, the Tribe of '51' was called together to hold its first council meeting. There were chiefs, warriors, and maidens from Hardin, Crow, St. X., and Garryowen. Our first council of peace was called by Medicine Men, Pike and Feldner. By an election, the tribe chose Big Chief, Ken Fox; Little Chief, Don Goller; Chief Spends the Money, Shirley Lou McCarty; Chief Spills the Ink, Joann (Bibby) Kronmiller. We also chose tribal colors. Blue and Silver; tribal song. Look for the Silver Lining; flower. Blue Iris; and the tribal motto, Not to the Top, but Climbing.” We made our way across the vast Prairie of Knowledge, safely forded the River Semester Exams, continued on our way and, with a little unsteadiness, crossed the River Final Exams. Then came summer. Both maidens and warriors explored camp and hunting grounds until we were called for another council fire. During the Fall of '48, Medicine Men, Riebeth and Solazzi, called the tribe of '51' for council. This time we chose Ken Fox, Jack Colstad, Bibby Kronmiller, Mary Ann Iverson, and Melvin Kunau--for student council representative, as leaders for the warpath. At the annual pow-wow, the Mixer, we were made up like witches and scarecrows, ready for the kill. Again, the tribe all crossed the River Examinations, and proceeded on through the now dense Forest of Knowledge. We continued onward to the great I-Q Barrier. Final Exams were reached and forded, with little ease. We made camp, taking our much-needed rest, exploring and discovering new weapons during the summer. Indian Summer approached in '49, and, with it, came the tribe of '51', led by Guides, Riebeth and Fisher. Again, we chose: Eric Walker, Don Goller, Placidia (Pete) Buechler, Darlene (Peabrain) Kamerzell and Clinton Thompson to scout our path. Our tribal play, Seventeenth Summer, directed by Ghostwriter Minard, and our symbolic rings and pins, were the envy of every other tribe. We, with some skill, proceeded to cross the River Tests. Continuing on our journey, with some ease, we made Big Eat Prom, Tropical Nights, for seniors. Successfully, we forded the stream, Thinkum, and made camp. In our last Autumn, approaching our goal, Riebeth and Fisher still our guides, the tribe of '51' marched bravely on, led by Big Chief, Eric Walker; Little Chief, Harold Nordwall; Chief Spills the Ink, Placidia (Pete) Buechler; Chief Spends the Cash, Don Goller; and Chief Represents Us, Donna Pitsch. We now ruled the Mixer, with a big bang. We brought Big Chief Shotsum Face to take pictures for the Annual, chose announcements, successfully crossed Test Mountains, and proceeded to put on a play, The Garden of the Moon,” with Mrs. Minard again directing; it was a huge success. With much ease and skill, we again set out; as we swiftly and hurriedly marched onward, we began to see the soft glow of our goal, the Happy Hunting Ground, where the Tribe of '51' received its great Honors and Diplomas at Graduation.
