But it was good to see that the team that beat us went to the state play offs this year. The co-captains of the team of 1946 were John Meador and Kenneth Lam. Junior High Basket Ball Boys Paul Grimes, Donald McComas, Billy Halterman, Bobby Joe Bales, Robert McAfee, Gerald Anderson, Edwin Merrifield, Coach Watskey, Thomas Statham, Bob Baker, John Sands, Wade Merrifield, C. O. Weddle The Junior High Boys placed second in the Hardin Tourna- ment. Bobbie Joe Eales was elected captain of the Junior High Team. m

Baagefgaff Senior High Basket Ball Boys Reggie Freeman, Philip Talley, Kenneth Lam, Jack Halterman, Coach Watskey, Junior McGuire, John Meador, Edward L. Rust, Jimmy Happy, hex Noelker, Richard Bales For lack of a coach, due ball season again opened with boys. At the beginning of the a discharged U.S. Marine, was All told, the Bulldogs to war conditions, the basket Mr. Lockridge in charge of the fifth month Mr. J. P. Watskey, elected as coach in athletics. had a very successful season. Including the games won in tournaments, we won 11 games and lost 10. In the Ray County Tournament Hardin placed second. The Bulldogs were playing under a one week of practice. After being beaten by Liberty in their the Excelsior Tournament, the team went into by trouncing Camden in their second game. But handicap, as they had had only first game at the semifinals the Smithville five ruined our hopes by taking our next game. Under Coach Watskey, the Bulldog cagers developed a fast break that put them on fire. They beat Lexington, Henrietta, Stet, Dover, and Lawson. It looked as though they couldn't be stopped by a team from a C class school. But again their hopes were ruined by Wellington in the Hardin Tournament. The championship game was a thrilling game, which can be seen by the score 18-16, but Wellington finally won out just at the close of an over-time period. 20
