The swimming meet was the first event of interest. There were speed races, side races, candle races and all kinds of dives-swan, jack-knife, neat and duet dives. Ethel Porter won highest points and Dot Paradise second. The Hockey season which began early in the fall opened with an inter-class tournament. The first game was played between the High School and Junior Class, the score being 1 to 0 in favor of Juniors. The following week the Juniors were victorious over the Seniors by a score of 2 to O. The Soccer tournament also proved successful. The first game played by the High School and Juniors ended in the Juniors' favor. The next game was played by the Juniors and Seniors, and this time the Seniors Ubrought home the bacon . In November when the days began to get gloomy the volley ball tournament was staged. The Juniors were victorious over the High School and the Seniors. After the Christmas holidays practise for indoor baseball was started. In the inter-class games the Seniors out-stood the High School and Juniors. During all the tournaments, basketball practice had gone on, and at the opening of the season some very fine material had been developed. Due to the increased enrollment there was more material for an excellent ball team than ever before. At the end of six weeks practice the regular Hardin basketball team was chosen after a great rivalry for places on the squad. The season opened Nov. 26 when the High School team met the Junior team for class championship. The High School after some brave knocks met defeat by a score. of ZQ to 1. For final championship a game was played between the Juniors and Seniors in which the Juniors carried off the banner. The first inter-collegiate game was played on December 7 with Farber, on Farber's court. At the end of the game the score stood 23 to 2 in Hardin's favor. Farber showed her ability in Basketball by winning third .place in the district High School tournament. The game between Laddonia and Hardin on December 17, was the first inter- collegiate game played on the home court. After a hard fought battle the score stood 20 to 3 in favor of Hardin. Laddonia has also been one of Hardin's strongest opponents and so in this game The Hardin Six really showed what they could do. Farber returned their game Feb. 4th and they must have been on the slump for they were defeated by a score of S4 to 4. ' Un February 11th, Hardin received her first scare of the season when she met Vandalia on Vandalia's court, but Hardin again led with a score of 20 to 14. Un February 15th Laddonia was defeated with a score of ZQ to 7. Hannibal, Hardin's bitterest enemy. played a game at Hardin on Feb. 22. After a hard fought for game Hardin led by five points, the score being I6 to II. Central College and Hardin played at Fayette, lXiIo. on the 23rd. Central for the last few years was Hardinls strongest opponent. Hardin was defeated by a score of I4 to II. This was a bitter pill for Hardin to swallow but they were not down hearted. Un March 14, the Central College played a return game and were defeated by six points. Un March 1, Hardin again defeated Vandalia on Hardin court. Central VVesleyan College defeated Hardin by a score of I6 to 12. But when the return game was played on Feb. 19th the score stood in favor of Hardin 20 to 17. This was indeed a lively game to round up the season with. Pagf' 73
