She has given her time gen- erously, inspired us, tolerated our misbehaviors, and never failed to see our point of view. Her service has been as a guiding light rather than a dominating power. She has always been faithful in her attempt to keep up our morale. For her loyalty as a teacher, a librarian, an annual sponsor, and friend, for helping to improve and make our school better and more outstanding, we proudly dedicate this 1956-57 Wildcat's Echo to . . . Mrs. Catherine B. McDonald . . our Mrs, Mac. '71 77lcnnofzq of P. G. SHAVER Peter Green Shaver, first princi- pal of a senior high school in our countyg dedicated champion of ed- ucation and life-long friend of the many students who came under his influence and direction. The influence of his life will long he reflected in the character of our community. Wfe honor him for his service to the educational develop- ment of our county. His pioneering efforts have been very significant in the progress which has come in our school system since those early days some fifty years ago. MRS. FLORENCE CAMPBELL, A.B. Florida State University BAND DEPARTMENT MR. JAMES YNCLAN, M.ME Florida State University MUSIC DEPARTMENT Opportunities for hearing music, good or bad or indifferent, are greater today than ever before, and it seems essential therefore, that young people should be trained in the difficult art of appreciation. The Music Department of Hardee High is striving toward these goals through the study of music fundament- als: the art of listening, lives of com- posers, and musical instruments in the general music classes. Our choral groups are founded on the belief that through performing a child may gain knowledge and create standards for himself that exceed those set by commercial interest. MRS. The '55-'56 Cats had all of the potential to he conference champions but seemed to melt under pressure when the chips were down. They ended the season with a 10-4 mark and an 11-6 over-all record. Lakeland politely dumped the Cats 3-0 in their season's opener. Then suddenly catching on fire. the Vvildcats sprinkled base hits all over Farr Field to capsize Ar- cadia. Bartow. and Lake Wales in their next three encounters. Running headlong into Lakeland again. the Wildcats came home purring. 11-3. The 'Cats then won their next six games intermingled with non-conference losses to Venice. 5-0. and Avon Park. 6-4. Entering the Southwest Florida Conference tournament in Bartow and boasting a perfect conference record of 10-0. the Cats squared off against Lake Wales in the first round. The Highlanders played some sad music out of their hagpipes as they were humhled 10-0. and the Cats advanced to the second round. The Wilclc'ats tasted hitter defeat for the first time in the second round against Haines City. Wvavlon Lee. Haines City hurler. provided the initial snap and crackle to pop the Cats' winning streak at eleven. Still stunned by the previous night's thumping. the Wildcats were outlasted by Plant City. the next night. 10-T. and thus eliminated from the tournament. Even though the 1955-56 Wildcats did not quite live up to expectations their fine play served as a preliminary showing what is to come. This season served as proving grounds for boys who will eventually hring us a state championship. - 5.915 ' , ..- T, 15,4 1 4 . ifrii -Q f-IEW ? .Y sir. fa .9 . i gs-f 9 4 ..,. The Student Council repre- sents the high school at the various civic organizations' meetings. The Council carries on several service projects during the school, among these are: supervising the lunch line, placing trash cans around the campus, and many other worthwhile activities. Each month the Council has a meeting with the entire student body to present a program and report the activities and business of the month. The Cheerleaders of Hardee High worked hard to raise school spirit at all the foot- ball and basketball games this year. Decorating goal posts, leading in pep rallies preced- ing every game, accepting the defeats as well as the victories, and traveling far to give a cheer, these cheerleaders played an important part in our school activities this year.
