Potent hitting, flawless fielding. and sheer hustle. highlighted by the deep down and undaunted Hdesire to winw were important factors which made it possible for the 195-L-55 Wildcat baseballers to end the season in a tie for third spot in the conference and earned them the recognition and pseudonym of giant killersf, The Wildcats began their season by dropping heartbreaking decisions to Lakeland, 13-8, and Bartow. 3-1. Rebounding strongly, the Cats literally chewed up and spit out the weak but willing Arcadia Bulldogs to the torrid rhythm of 15-2. After successive blasts by Plant City and Ft. Myers, the Cats traveled to Winter Haven to take on the first place and undefeated Blue Devils. It was Cats all the way and claws flew in every direction as our boys bludgeoned and buried the numbed and baffled Devils by a count of 21-1. Close decisions, one run margins, and extra inning games highlighted the remaining frays of the regular season. Entering the Southwest Florida Conference Tournament in Wauchula, the Wild- cats squared off with Plant City in their first round. Four extra base blasts high- lighted the Wildcats chopping attack as they stunned the Planters 4-3 to gain the semi-finals. In the semi-finals of the Southwest Florida Conference Tournament the Cats squared off once again with Winter Haven.
