There is mischief in this one, the yearbook of that year said of her. 'Dick' is the personification of athletic energy and enthusiasm. Even when she is tired out, she manages to give the impression that she is just aching to run a race or climb a tree. She was to give that impression all her life. She greeted life with a smile and irresistible enthusiasm. Sun, rain, or snow--she appreciated them all, and somehow the day was more beautiful seen through her eyes . For she had the gift of living. Nothing was unimportant to her. She cared. She re- joiced with us over our joys and grieved with us over our sorrows. No problem was too great or too small for her to lend a helping hand, and one felt better because of her. Harbor has never had a more loyal friend or energetic booster, for her heart was there and a large portion of her life. This was her school, first as a student, and then for 21 years as sec- retary to the superintendent . One can- not count the lives she has influenced, the people she has helped, or the de- voted friends she has made. ODECDOcRIAOD Her devotion to duty, her pride in her work, her boundless energy and chucr, hur laughter and humor, her love for us are an inspiration to all of us. We who knexx her loved her, and we are better for having known her . For 11ers was a grant and HM - daunted splrit and a magnificent heart . She returned to Harbor in January of 1941 as secretary to Supt. W. li. chncr. After his death in 1949, she continued as secretary to Ralph Lanham . She left mth him in January, 1961, when With the consolidation he became assistant sulmrimcmlcnt. She was to occupy that position later for Harry Bowen and A . A . Candela . She originated the Harbor Variety Show and directed it for many years, even after the consolidation. This year's show was the 28th. She sold tickets at football and basketball games, thus maintaining her interest in Harbor. Her death, sudden and coming in full career as she would have liked it, left a great void in the hearts and lives of many people . This 1909 Mariner Yearbook is dedicated by the Yearbook Staff to Mr. Wilbert Willey. A member of Harbor's faculty for 16 years, Mr. Willey has taught Industrial Arts and Shop. In addition. he has coached basketball and baseball for many years. He contributes his time and skill to help out many organizations here at Harbor. Mr. Willey is an adviser to the National Honor Society. He has been a great help to the play casts in the assistance he has given in the construction of play sets. In addition to his work here at Harbor, Mr. Willey is well-known in the com- munity us an expert square dance caller. He is very active in civic proj- ects and organizations. Rootlets up through fibres blindly grope . . So man's life must climb From the clods of time Unto heavens sublime. k w 14 V: V C; f Mix; MDCDICDISCCRA IOCD ADMINISTRATION CJXRI'Y 9 SIII IDON PR! SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS are Crena wmov, vicc-president; Scott Fargo, president; Marv Vetmno' secretary; and Paige DeHuliLm, treasurer. The members of the Class of 1969 were the first to attend the new four -year high school. During our freshman year, we began to earn money for the prom by holding a scrap metal drive. A pop bottle drive, car wash, and Easter candy sale were our money- making projects during our sophomore year. As juniors, we held the traditional junior candy sale. Finally, all these years of hard work paid 0ff--the prom was a success! Our senior year has been a kaleidoscope of activities--un undefeated football team, Crena as Homecoming Queen, Leif EriCSon Day, WONDERFUL TOWN, applications galore . . . Some remember test tubes, imaginary numbers, and steps, steps, and more steps! Others, the click -click of over -worked typewriters and a daily trek to Bula. Then, there are the creative members who are skillful with paint, pen, ink, compass and T-square, buzzsaw and joiner, wrench and screwdriver, carburetor and radiator. Many remember active participation in music, dramatics, and assorted sports activities. The time has come and passed to make important decisions . But, We are not yet out H of the woods. THE CLASS OF 1969 SENIOR CLASS ADVISERS are Mr. James Orr, Mrs. Connie Chmiclew- ski, and Mr, Harrylee U12. FOOTBALL 1968-THE YEAR Field and Co. come on the field for the second half. A tre mendous. wonderful year. A great group of young men--w0uld have to be listed among the alletime great squads of Harbor High School. This is how Coach of the Year Jim Orr described our championship foot- ball team of1968. The team won everythingnCity Series, N.I'LCrAand was the top county team with a 10--O--0 record and a 14 game winning streak. The offense, most potent in the county, was led by Paul Cafaro, Most Val- uable Player ; Bill Olin, Most Valuable Lineman ; Ken Bires, Most Val- uable Bach ; Larry Hummer and Bob Millberg, Most Valuable Offense ; and Roger Goudy, Most Consistent Player. Opponent defenses respected both the passing game and the running game. Curt Siler's consistent break- away runs and Larry Hummer's passes continually destroyed defenses. Our defense, led by Most Valuable Defense Dale Theis, was the pride and joy of the coaches. It limited opponents to little more than a touchdmvn per game. Greg Fritz turned the defense into offense by running back three interceptions all the way. The gratifying victory over Ashtabula put Harbor on top, and Jim Candela and Curt Siler, Most Improved Juniors ; and Cary Lillvis and Dante Monda, Most Improved Sophomores will have their sights set on 24--0. In the words of Coach Orr: May 1969 be as meaningful to the underclassmen as they return defending the high honor of CHAMPIONS, ROW 4: Coach Fran Bedont, Coach George Shreyer, Cary Lillvis, Vince Timonere, Jim Martello, Ron Scott, Steve Woomer, Tim Andolsek, Brittain Briggs, Bob Altonen, Dante Monda, Dave Peterson, Head Coach Jim Orr.
