AS athletic director, coach, and teacher, Mr. Wasulko combines ability and learning with a dry wit and an infectious laugh. We may not remember all the math he tried to teach us, but we will recall his wit and humor. Though we may not be able to add 2+2 without counting on our fingers, we can add 4B+2B tor not ZBl. For both his teaching and his congenial personality we express our appreciation. 015 PEOPLE WHO 'X WANT TO HELP QR. ULTgKKA Q r 5 INES'IERATION Charles .X. Meistcr. I have but one message to relay to you graduates. The person who longs to visit new places and taste novel experiences takes with him many mental mem entos through which he compares, evaluates, and participates. I know your high school years at Harbor have been the most wonderful you could experience, but don't let them stop now. Continue to study, experience, learn, and to seek the realm of wealth and for- tune that exists to all man, for a person who has had a cultural, well rounded, and broad heritage stands ready to give, share, and receive. Take advantage of every opportunity society and the world has to offer, set your goals high, and don't be satisfied with anything but achieving those goals. Join those who have attained those ulti- mate goals, but remember--GIVE, SHARE, AND RECEIVE. With this in mind, I extend my sincere congratulations to the class of '68. meg Assistant Principal The pleasure received from the associ- ation with students like you of Harbor High School cannot be expressed in the few words written here. You are or will be the graduates of Har- bor, and for this you can be justly proud that you have contributed toward making yours the best school. Yours is a heritage and a tradition which came from the past, is furthered in the present, and will continue in the future. Remember these days, these associations, and these high standards of which you are a part. Take with you knowledge and under- standing, molding them into wisdom making this the beginning of citizenship, leadership, and service to your com- munity, country, and World. S HAPPINESS ,5 IS BEING SENIOR K G The Senior Class Officers pictured at the left are Rosemari Hummer, treasurer; Cindy Nappi, secretary; Martha Shaul. vice-prcsident; and David Cunningham. president. THE CLASS OF 1968 The class of 1968 is the last Class that attended Harbor High in the seventh grade, since the next year the seventh and eighth grades were sent to junior high schools. After tasting high school life, we found it hard to adjust to eighth grade away from Harbor in the new junior high set-up. Anxiously we awaited our return as freshman. Back at Harbor in the ninth grade we organized ourselves into a class by electing officers, the first of many such elections in which our Class was to be involved. To raise money we held bake sales and a car wash. As sophomores we were for the first time upperclassmen. This new confidence showed itself especially in the interclass basketball tournaments. We walked away with most of the honors, including girls' champion team and most enthusiastic class . By holding more bake sales, the traditional bottle drive, and the car wash before the prom, we added to our treasury. Through all these ac- tivities ran the daily schedule of our classes. In our junior year we added to our list of achievements. We put on our class play Time Out for Ginger; we held a very suc- cessful candy drive; we again took many of the honors at the basket- ball tournaments; and we donated the largest sum of any class to the United Appeal Drive. Our enthusiasm and spirit infected the whole school. Although we were kept busy with school work and activities, we never forgot the prom we were going to put on in the spring. The Prom Committee started making plans the summer before and con- tinued meeting almost every Sunday throughout the year. As May drew near, those with the most responsibility started panicking, wonderingr whether things would go as planned. But once more, our Class united and worked together; and us the week of Construction progressed, tlmse of us who could spare a minute to look saw arbors taking shape, gardens springing up, wallpaper taking the place of brick, a white mansion rising--the whole being transformed into u Southern garden The final result surpassed even our expectations. The night of our prom will be one of the most beautiful memories we shall keep of our high school life. Our senior year finally arrived. lVo more looking up to seniors in awe, wondering what it was like to he at the top. We were there! Now our minds turned toward the future, toward graduation and what we would do after. Our time became filled with college enw trance examinations, guidance meetings, ordering announcements and caps and gowns, filling out college applications. Of course, there was the present to think of, too; our class's puttingr out the yearbook, Class plays, assemblies. Seniors walked around school, groggy from lack of sleep, trying to keep things straight, Act IV and V of MACBETH for tomorrow . . . Year- book deadline the twenty-ninth . . . We remember the hard work, the fun, the many friends we made, the pride we showed in our school. We also realized the dedication our teachers and administrators had ex- hibited, as they spent much of their lives preparing us, seniors and un- derclassmen, for ours. We thank them for that. As we leave Harbor, we would like to leave a message for the students who follow us. We hope that you will show by your actions and spirit, as we have done, that Happiness is Harbor High School! IN MEMORIAM Two boys, Mark Sheldon and Gary Bcckwith, who were our classmates for many years, will not graduate with us actually; but we want to remember here that they were members of our class, whom many 01' us knew and fondly remember. As Mark Sheldon passed away during sixth grade, many of our class did not know him. Those of us who did know him recall him as an active boy who never seemed to run out of energy. He lives with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernesto Villalba, in Asuncion, Paraguay. Aug has five brothers and five sisters. During his stay in America Ang lived with Mr. and Mrs . Donald F . Scott and their son, Don, a senior at Harbor. Don's sister, Suzanne, isa junior at Kent State University. Commenting on Ang, Don said, He's cool! He's the best brother I ever had . At: home Ang was president of his class and belonged to several clubs . He was on his class soccer and basketball teams. His hobbies are watching movies, read- ing, dancing, and playing chess. At Harbor Ang was treasurer of the French Club, a member of the National Thespians and American F ield Service. He also played on the football team. 1967-68 Asked how he felt when he first arrived m 111 the Un1ted States, Aug laughed. Oh, great! I was curious? Referring to the people - - 'Before I came here, I thought it was very different, but it isn't different . It's almost the same . About Ashtabula-- I like it because in my town all the houses are brick, and 1 we don' thave yards Here you don' thave the limit of awall, and you can see the ' houses. Ang commented that teenagers in Para- , guay talk more about international affairs than we do. He also noticed that Amer- ican girls are freer and can go places alone; in Paraguay they are always ac- companied by a chaperon. When Aug returns home, he plans to study engineering at the National University. i Officers are Lynn Kotila. president; Sandy Lautcrbach, vice-prcsident; 103nm Alpinc secretary; and Kurt Miller. treasurcr. Miss Mary Boyce is the adviser of the group. To become a member of the Quill and Scroll, a student must make an outstanding contribution to the school yearbook or newspaper. He must also be a junior or senior and rank in the top third of his class. New members are taken into the organization at a formal initiation, a candlelight ceremony where they receive pins denoting membership in the Club. IT,S ACADEMIC Fifteen seniors were chosen by a faculty committee to travel to Cleveland for It's Academic try-outs. On the basis of quick, accurate answers at the try-outs and gen- eral knowledge of the students' ability, the committee chose six of those fifteen to compete on television: Janis Wisnyai tcaptaim, Jim Grecnawalt, Kurt Miller, Scott Shellhammer, Wally Good, Mark Andrews. The six contestants practiced once a week for about five weeks. First, the team practiced 'on general questions; then they used more specific ones. The members were advised to read more. Mr. Camabuci rigged up a buzzer system in the phy- sics lab in order to familiarize the team with its use. The last week before taping, the contestants went through a trial run, simulating as nearly as possible the actual contest. Robert Huff drilled them. The team was accompanied to Cleveland by several members of the faculty, friends and relatives of the team members, and several members of the senior class . Harbor competed against Hebrew Academy-Yavne and John Adams High School. The first two rounds, Harbor was tied with one of the other schools. The third round Harbor moved ahead. In the grabebag round Harbor and John Adams gained points un- til on the last question, which John Adams was answering, a correct answer could bring both teams to a tie once more. The audience waited breathlessly to hear John Adam's answer. It was incorrect, leaving Harbor the winner! On the way home the team and its supporters stopped for a celebration. Passing through the doorway of the lobby, the guests were able to see the results of a long year of planning and a too-short, hectic week of cone struction. The gym lobby was wall -papered and carpeted to trans - form it into a Southern dining room . A fireplace and colonial furniture gave a homey feeling to the setting. Entering the gym, the couples stepped onto the veranda of a white, pillared Southern mansion. Before them stretched an enchanting Southern garden with an ivy- covered arbor, two lighted fountains, a gazebo serving as a bandstand, and a slave shack used for a coat check room. Two painted river scenes on the south and east walls added to the beauty of the garden. Long-stemmed red roses decorated each table. Tony Esposito and his orchestra provided the music for the prom. Terry R111 and Vicky Schminky were crewned King and Queen of the night . At midnight the after -pr0m party erupted with the arrival of the Volcanics, who played until the early morning. Return to Tara was then gone with the wind. VOCATIONAL CLUBS Harbor's vocational training consists of three programs: Distri - butive Education. Cooperative Office Education. and Trades and Industries. The Trades and Industries Program is composed of juniors and seniors under the direction of Sam Fiorenzo. It gives high school students exploratory experiences in such trades as machine shop, auto mechanics, auto body, electricity, and printing. Students who complete this program have an opportunity to become appren- tices in the trade they studied. Distributive Education aims to develope a respect for education in marketing and distribution which will contribute to vocational competence. FOOTBALL 1967 Having their finest season since 1962, Coach Jim Orr's foot- ball team marched to a 6-2-1 record . Led by the county's top scorer, Frank Enricco, the Seamen took second place in both the NBC and City Series . In the first game of the season an inspired squad came from behind to beat Erie Strong Vincent . After losing a tough game to Fairport, they came back and soundly trounced Jefferson. Rated as the county's number one game of the season, the Ashtabula -Harbor game ended in a scoreless draw. The team lost for the last time of the season to St. John. An easy victory over Conneaut preceeded a fine 6-0 win over Edgewood . The next week the Mariners thoroughly ground Geneva into the mud, paying off a debt from last year. In the last game of their high school football career the seniors led the team to a thrilling victory over Madison.
