SENIORS OF 1953 - your secondary school career! You have looked forward to Commencement for ati least six years. As it dawns upon you that this is the end - Commencement - you will have mingled feelings of Joy and regret, Joy that you have succeeded, regret that you must part with so many friendsg that you must enter a new environment of life. Graduation is not the end of study, it 1s really the beginning, Now you must not only study books, but you must intro- spect yourself, Now you must find your interests and abilities. Now you must decide what you wish to do, continue your education or start in some life occupa- tion, r Your success in life will continue to be based on the kind of report you receive, On the Report Card of Life you will be graded on your ability to think analytically and critically. Thinkers always plan the world's work, They chart the direction of progress or the woes of all generations, Analytical thinkers are willing to work hard themselves and they require others to do the same, You must develop attractive personality traits, those which are depend- able and regular if you are to have the ability to inspire confidence in others, Only to the degree that you can gain the confidence of your fellow- man will you succeed in gaining worthy recognition for yourself. As you enter this new realm of life, you will find a very competitive world, Others will be trying to gain from life the things you value most. You will find that you must be tolerant to the hostile action of groups who seek to use ruthless methods to achieve their ends. A most commendable trait that any human being can possess is the cour- age of conviction, We must not be so straitlaced in our thinking that we cannot think and act with others - to do this, we lose our influence, We must not be so compromising that we lack moral principles - to do this will take away all our purpose for living and render us useless to ourselves and those who need us, Good social tact and finesse will greatly aid you, even when you are in the minority. Finally, on the Report Card of Life you will be graded according to your faith - faith in things - faith in people, This faith will express 1t- self in your ability to resist fear. Companionship with others in the experiences of religious living will always bring you to the realization that the great achievements of this world exemplify the Golden Rule, We think you have made your contribution to the heritage of good educa- tion in our schools, As you leave us, we will miss you, We hope that we who remain are better because of our associations with you. The faculty, Board of Education, and I hope that you experience the Joys of a great Commencement, We wish you Godspeed as you leave us, I I You are approaching the climax of SUPT. RALPH S. LANHAM
