We are confident that many of you cherish a genuine affection for your school and your community. You will be told that you are crossing the old threshold and entering a new world. In a sense, this is true. The feelings and attitudes you harbor in mind and heart as you go will have much to do with determining the kind of new world you are entering. It may be well to remind your- selves that it is your world and that to it you owe a new and ever-growing allegiance. It is a world in which you will endeavor to find pleasure, wealth of one kind or another, adequate outlet for your ener- gy, and opportunity to make the world better. If you would avoid tragedy of the direst kind, you will seek early to find what your world expects of you and go about measuring your abilities, and will to meet those expectations. lluppy will you be if you realize from the sort that lay: umlorgii'd; the woi'lll and that strict obedience will bring: i111- 1.10:1:L11e 21.1:l lusting satisfac- tions. HERRON tContinued from Preceding Pagei each to cop the scoring honors. The Harbor-Edgewood fray was the preliminary game of Ashtabula's game against Euc- lid Shore, at l'ldgewood. Harbor lost, 28-21, after being tied al- most throughout the game. This contest had as much rivalry as a Harbor-Bula clash. Norm Michelson and Tom Hacha were Harbor's top scorers with seven and six points, respectively. Harhoris next opponents were Fairportls Skippers, whom the Mariners downed, 36-31. Norm Michelson led Harborls scoring barrage with fifteen counters. Harbor was behind the firet three quarters but tied the score at 25-2111, going: into the last period. For their third consecutive non-leaguer, Harbor downed Warren St. Mary's quintet, 4U- 34. Trailing 15-11 at the half, Harbor came back strong to snag the victory. Harry King; totaled ten points for Harbor; Hacha followed with nine. Willoughby was Harborls next victim, being soundly thrashed by a score .of 40-16. Harbor held the advantage during the whole game, having a strong half-time lead of 23-10. Michel- son marked up eight points to lead all scoring. Snagging their fourth straight victory, the Mariners eked out a Victory over a very much- favored Geneva quintet, 36-33. Geneva held the lead the first half. Harbor had the edge the second half, though mest of the time the lead was alternating. King totaled fourteen points for Harbor, and Jim Otto had six- teen points for the losers. Winning over Harbor the sec- ond time by virtue of a last- minute bucket. Painesvilleis cagemen toppled Harbor, 34-32. With about fifteen seconds to play, Doug Pykonen dropped one in for the tie-breaking scare. King, of Harbor, and Pykonen were high point men with twelve markers apiece. For their worst beating thus far in the season, Conneautls Trojans snowed Harbor under, 43-24. The game was rough, and before it was over the referees were practically run from the gym. Conneaut led all the way. and Harbor seemed helpless. King grabbed Har- boris scoring laurels with eight points. Running up their biggest score of the season. Harbor ran away with Kingsvillels cagers, 57-32. Michelson and Eddie Laine took the scoring honors with Michelson scoring fifteen and Laine totaling thirteen. Kingsville was held scoreless for the first ten minutes of the game. Mentor war: Harborls secnnd easy victim. They were downed, 48-24. The Cardinals were ahead only at the end of the first period. 9-8. King, for the fourth consecutive time, led the scoring, this time with seven- teen points. Hacha scared twelve. Avenging their previous loss to Harbor, Genevals Eagles beat Harbor, 29-23, in a very slow game. Genevals sophomore Jim Merrell led all Scoring with ten points. His teammate, Jim Otto, fullowed with a nine-point total. Again Harbor was beaten by Ashtabula, 38-25. Goingr into the last quarter with a score at a 17-all deadlock, the Bulans seemed to find themselves. Their fast-breaking plays and sharp defense held Harbor to eight; counters while they rolled in 21 points. For the most surprising up- set of the season, Willoughby spilled Harbor, 42-26, thus avenging their 40-16 defeat earlier in the season. Laine seemed tn be the only Harbnrite to have the range and he hit the hoop for thirteen points. Dropping their fourth straight game Harbor bowed to Con- neaut for the second time of the season by the low score of 29- 18. Peura was Harbor's leading scorer with eight points. This game was Harborls last league tilt of the season. Harbor was reuuted to have drawn the tnughest sectional tournament schedule of any tournament team. Their first game, against Fairport, they won, 36-32. Previously Harbor had won over the Skinpers, 36- 31. Tnm Hacha topped all scor- ing with thirteen points. Geneva was Harbor's opponent, and Harbor next again Coach Elmer G. Gray won. 36-35, in the most thrill- ing game of the tournament. 'Iom Hacha's foul shot in the last fifteen minutes of play broke the tie and gave Harbar the victory. Hacha, along with Peura, scored twelve points. Harbor then met Edgewood in the playoff, even though both teams were to go to Kent for district class B tnurnament play. Harbor lost to Edgewood, 26-22. but both teams received trophies for their class B see- tional championships. In the hrst game at Kent, Harbor edged out Spencer, 37- 35. Laine paced all scoring with thirteen points. Michelson was next with eleven. Lowellvillels amazing last- period rally in Harborls second game at Kent gave them a de- cisive 40-29 victory over the Mariners. Lowellville went inzo the last quarter ahead by only nne pnint, 28-27. They really started to roll in the final period. Norm Michelson had a sea- sonls total of 114 points to lead all the local seasmfs end squad's scoring. Following Michelson was Dick Peura with 98. Ranking third was Eddie Laine with 94; close behind was Tom Hacha with 92. Laine was placed as a guard on the semml league all-star team, to be the only Harborite to rate all-league mention.
