The untiring efforts of our teachers and their interest in us can be repaid only by our great respect for them. But the world moves around and life moves on. We are now seniors, young adult citizens, fashioned in Harbor Creek's classrooms, and ready to make our own way in the world. As we look over the countryside, we wonder what lies beyond. What chasms to cross and what obstacles to pass? What tears to shed and happiness to reap? Re- gardless of the path we can all look behind, smile, remember, and be better people for the wonderful years we, the class of '55 spent at Harbor Creek High School. B LRE. sed gag' Succeed Ill YEARS HHIM IIW As we look into the future we see Navy Admirals Norman Roberts and Fred Lyon on a 30 day leave taking a trip to visit some of their old class matesg let's go along with them. As we arrive at New York City we stop at the office of the New York Times where Marlene Dal- Canton is Editor, LaWanda Ricker is Society Editor, and Wilbur Goldsby is a sports writer. After bidding them good-bye we decided to go to the Madison Square Garden to see the Harbor Creek Globe-Trotters, Paul Herbst, Lloyd Gardner, Don Vrenna, Jerry Lewis, and Jim Stephenson playing Eleanor Norman's Girls' Team. After the game we go to Bob Kwitowski's dive which is illegal be- cause of prohibition brought back by President Tom Sebring. We just have time left to catch Sherm Clark's souped-up-bus which will take us to Erie. When we reach Erie, we make reservations at Chuck Scott's Ultra-Modern Hotel, which was designed by Ray Scott, and interior-decorated by June Krebs. Then we proceed to go about town. Bill Haynes literally runs into us while teaching Sally Smith how to drive. After that narrow escape we go to Bob Bartlett's Insurance Agency and take out a policy. We decided not to take a bus to Cleveland, so we went to Gary Farrell's Custom Auto Shoppe and bought a car. After leaving Erie we depart for Cleveland, but the car breaks down, so we stop at Gary Janes' Garage to have repairs. There we meet Gene Rodland who is still trying to get his Ford started. We decide to go fishing while our car is being fixed, but after being fined by Game Warden Gene Willman, for not having a license we give it up as a bad bet. By this time, our car is .fixed, so we start on. We stop at Sally Betts' Pedigreed Cat Farm to say hello, then continue on our merry way. By the time we reach Cleveland it is supper time, so we go to the swanky All-A-wreck Club, owned and operated by Doris Ollarek. There we meet some of our old buddies who are celebrating wedding anniversaries, namely Donna Bailey, Elaine Butterbaugh, Ann Cooper, Margaret Gray, Alberta Herring, Donna Leslie, and Donna Perdue. Next day we decide to do some shopping. We go to Joyce Klinger's Department Store, and meet Howard Seifert, vice-president, with his personal secretary, Carol Maille. Next we head for the Cleveland Ball Park to see the Indians play. Bill Gindlesperger is pitching today. Connie Menendez, Joann Kuehnle, and Agnes Keller are faithfully cheering their team on. As we leave we call a taxi to take us to our hotel, and lo and behold who should be driving it but David Pennsy. As we careen through the streets we hear the wail of the sireng we get a ticket for speeding from motor-cycle cop James Kuzmicki. Since we were delayed anyway, we decided to visit Roger Hammond's Sweat Shirt Manufacturing Co. ?' THRU THE YEARS We finally get away from Cleveland and hit Chicago. We didn't quite make it though, as we collided with one of Bob Akerly's dump trucks, and ended up at Chicago Memorial Hospital. Bob Paull and Jack Catrabone are the attending physicians. We are given the best of care by Ann Joslyn, Becky Moore, Pat McManus, Mary Eisert, Nina Emch, Alice Overdorf, and Peggy Young. As we lie in bed watching the Olympics on Television, we see Arnie Clark win the high jump, and Nick Woznicki win the pole-vault. We got out of the Hospital the next day and were preparing to leave when we noticed a school teachers' convention across the street. We went over and met Carol Weed, Joyce Crain, Peggy Forbes, Carol Shaffer, and Doris Jean Kunsch, After a tear- jerking departure, we sped on our way towards California. We stopped at the famous Grand Canyon to see the sites and met Grace Hines, who recently won a Pulitzer Prize for her book Don't Be A Party Pooper. We decided to go to the bottom of the Canyon bv mule train, but we found out that Fred Ester was going to lead the mules, so we didn't go. We headed for Reno, Nevada next. After arriving there we went to Swanson's place, a ritzy night- club owned and operated by Dave Swanson. We sat there eating Marian Salsbury's cherry pie, and listened to the music of Dimitri Dominik, Herb Elletson, Phil Harcourt, Ralph Hale, and vocalist Jean Tobin. After dinner we tried our luck on some of George Weir's slot machines. After losing our shirts, we go to honest Ernie's Loan Co. owned by Ernestine Calhoun, and borrow some money from chief money loaner Margaret Halyak. As we continue on our way, we roll on the super-highway built by George Henderson's construc- tion Co. By the time we reach California we are getting very hungry, so we stop at Albie Soder's Fruit Stand, where they sell farm produce raised on Carl Beaumont's Farm. After satisfying our wants, we continued on our way. We arrived in Hollywood and went to the Askins, Fink, and Peggs' Movie Studio. We visited the accounting department where Ethel Furin, Marilyn Brown, Marjie Fra- zier, and Phyllis Hovis were busy making out checks for the president of the company, Bob Sutter, while his personal secretary, Eleanor Hall, sits on his left leg, His right leg is still in a cast. Next we go to the casting department where Janet Vaughn is teaching Sylvia Sharpe how to speak correctly. After saying good-bye to them we see Carol Guerra practicing her routines for the new musical Buttons And Bows' in which she is being starred. Across the hall is Jessie Heaps who is busily directing the cameraman. After leaving the studio we go across the street to Terry McShea and Dick Catrabone's Hot Rod Shop. Working furiously on one of the cars is master mechanic, Jo Whitney. After spending a few more days in Hollywood we hopped in our car and headed back to New York. Thus, our 30 days completed we departed back into Uncle Sam 's custody. DHK5 'R XTL. N QW b N QW. Mg' S , 'S W i' ' ' fi , X ' ,, ,... V ' 31 A. This proves that big scale cheering is as old as the his- tory of armed combat, and we love being old- fashioned! A cheerleader's job is to direct a Crowd into yelling and cheering at appropriate times. Harb's girls this year report that their job has been a happy and enriching experience. Engaged in competition with 5 other Class A schools, the team proved that they were able to hold their own against the teams from the larger schools. Our Varsity team, which was coached by Mr. Lloyd Leary, consisted of 8 seniors and 6 juniors. The Starting lineup was 5 seniors, who have played basketball together for the past five years, and who have become quite proficient at working as a unit. The startinglineup consisted of Wilbur Goldsby, Bob Akerly, Howard Seifert, Jim Stephenson and Jerry Lewis. Harbor Creek possessed Considerable reserve strength in the remaining 3 seniors and 6 juniors. The reserves included Paul Herbst, Don Vrenna and Lloyd Gardner who are seniors and LaVern Tingly, Chuck Corey, Tom Allen, Ed Carney, Wally Akerly and Jim Keane as juniors. George Henderson and Ronnie Weed shared the manager's duties, Harbor Creek also placed 4 boys on the list of the top 20 scorers in the area, a feat which was matched only by Erie Strong Vincent. Some highlights of the past season were Harbor Creek's victories over Millcreek and Erie Academy, and our mere 4 point loss to lirie Tech and also to Erie Cathedral Prep. Mr. Leary also established a new milestone in athletic achievements. He did so by using better than 11,469 miles of adhesive tape to hold the teams battered ankles together.
