JUNIORST On October 7, 1950, the Juniors began their activities for the year by having a bake sale. This project took place at Mihle - thaler's Store during the hours of one and four p. m. For October 9, we planned a wiener roast. All day it rained and we were quite con- cerned over the thought of postponing our roast. Although it was raining in the eve- ning, we had the roast at Wagner's park. A Blue Jean Jamboree took place in our school cafeteria November 10. The pro- gram consisted of square dancing, modern dancing, and cake walks. Refreshments included sandwiches and pop. The Junior Carnival, which had been a yearly event, was not held this year. Our class had candy sales, sold refresh- ments during the games, had roller skat- ing parties, and our Junior play during the second semester. The climax of a season full of events ended withthe Junior-Senior Reception and J-Hop. This page sponsored by THUMB MOTOR gl EQUIPMENT SALES, Bad Axe, and JOHN C. NEEB A 4: y.. x ... SOP!-IOMORES The Sophomore class numbers 54. They held a Soc Hop on October 2.7 which was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed. For - eign students from MichiganState College who were visiting us that weekend entered into the fun by also dancing in their stock- ing feet. A Roller Skating Party, held on November 17, was enjoyed by all in spite of a few falls. The Sophomores found that their horne- made candy was in great demand at a sale held on noon on December 19. School Rings arrived just before Christ- mas so most of the sophomores bought themselves rings as Christmas presents. FRESHMEN The Freshman class is the largest in the history of the Harbor Beach Community School with a membership of 75. They proved themselves good sports when the seniors initiated them. They wore funny clothes and acted as stooges for the sen- iors. That night the seniors entertained them at an all-schoolparty where every- one had a wonderful time. In November the Freshmen held a home- made cand y sale. They gave a Roller Skating Party on January 23. The Freshman class is not only high in quantitybutalsoquality. They have led all semesterin having the highest percentage of their class on the honor roll. They con- tributed members to the football and basketball teams and are taking an active part in other extra-curricular activities. W't 1 h the compliments of th C HURON RY The final tally of the 950 football season shows that the Harbor Beach P1 rates ended the season with 3 wins and 5 losses but we all must remember that the squad was severly hampered by the injury Jinx before the season had even reached the halfway point The team in the face of great odds still outfought most of the teams played even though we were not fortunate enough to out score them The season s opener on September 15 found the Pirates plating under lights on our new athletic field for the first time Though the field was ankle deep in mud and water our powerful Pirates playlng at fullstrenfrth splashed and scampered their way to a smashing 38 to 0 victorx over Deckerville OnSeptember Z2 the team traveled to Pigeon where the Pirates defeated the Bruce Hagedon were the big factors in our vxctorv On September Z9 the Pirates traveled to Vassar and were defeated by the score of Z5 to 7 The Vulcans went on to an undefeated season after wrecking our hopes Though the Pirates Jumped into a 7 to O lead inthe first quarter on Bruce Hagedon s 70 yard touchdown Jaunt after intercepting a pass we could not match the aerial might of the Vulcans The Pirates journeyed to Elkton on October 6 but we we re really hit by the injury Jinx and were defeated after a hard struggle We practically losthalf our team during the game with injury hitting the men On October ll our new athletic field was dedicated during the halftime intermission of our game with Bad Axe Again the field was a sea of mud and water but the team enjoyed dumping their arch rivals into it For the second year in a row Bad Axe won the game by the same score 6 to 0 and in the same manner a high wobbly pass caught in the end zone The Pirates played a good brand of ball before the largest crowd ever to view a football game in Harbor Beach On October Z0 the Pirates againlost a heart-breaking hard-fought game. Caro beaten five times previously came back in the second half of the game with two touchdowns to win 13 to' 6. The Pirates defeated Sebewaingby the score of IZ to 0 on October Z7 Mack Bell plunged over from the one yard line in the second quarter and Bruce Hage- donswept right end in the fourth quarter for a 32 yard touchdown run to complete the scoring. On November 3 the Pirates ended the season by being defeated by Cass City by the score of Z0 to O. The Pirates played inspired ball but could not match the power of Cass City's might.
