As shown by this spirited raisin during the Homecoming parade, everyone is a Rebel at heart. HCH Freshmen were thrilled to hear that their float, sporting the currently popular raisin men as Rebels, had won 2nd place. The theme of the float. “Rebels arc RAISIN a ruckus tonight! put a smile on everyone’s face. 13

Mr. Abney’s Advanced Art class worked dozens of hours to make the Homecoming run-through a true work of art, later taking pride in the few seconds of display before the football team crashed through with John Bullock and Randy Smith in the lead.

HOMECOMING: A CELEBRATION The last week of October was a vibrant one in the lives of student and faculty at Haralson County High School; it was the 1987-88 Homecoming Week. Five days were packed full of off-beat school-affili- ated activities. Student Council held a week-long com- petition for the spirit stick to be presented during the pep rally at the end of the week. A separate event was sponsored daily: Sweatshirt Day, Inside-Out Day, and Blue and Grey Day. The triumphant senior class was awarded the spirit stick. Also an- nounced at the pep rally were Mr. Home- coming winners: Mr. Ugly, Kelly Staggs; Mr. Hair, Bryan Spake; Mr. Macho, Glenn Dennis; Mr. Legs and Mr. Homecoming, Ben Williams. Participants from school clubs and classes competed in a contest for the best float. These floats were displayed in a Homecoming parade on Friday. Later that night, the winners of the competition were announced at the football game: 1st place, senior class; 2nd place, freshman class; and 3rd place, junior class. At kickoff of the Homecoming game, a total of 3119 balloons were released. This event was the finale of a week of balloon sales made by the Rebel Yearbook Staff. Over the course of the five days, each class fared well, but near the week’s end a fierce battle raged between the senior and junior classes. The senior class came out on top with a record 1136 balloons. The junior class snagged second place easily with 1055 balloons. The long week was capped off by the Rebel game against the Rockmart Yellow Jackets. Following the game. Student Council sponsored a dance featuring the band. Keeper. Although the Jackets reigned victorious, the Rebel spirit re- mained intact. Mr. Homecoming Ben Williams ac- cepts an enthusiastic hug from Mrs. Estep as Kelly Staggs, winner of Mr. Ugly, blows kisses to a crowd of admiring sophomores. Often captivating an audience by adapting original words to well- known tunes, here the cheerleaders are caught NOT spreading gos- sip. 14
