As shown by this spirited raisin during the Homecoming parade, everyone is a Rebel at heart. HCH Freshmen were thrilled to hear that their float, sporting the currently popular raisin men as Rebels, had won 2nd place. The theme of the float. “Rebels arc RAISIN a ruckus tonight! put a smile on everyone’s face. 13 HOMECOMING: A CELEBRATION The last week of October was a vibrant one in the lives of student and faculty at Haralson County High School; it was the 1987-88 Homecoming Week. Five days were packed full of off-beat school-affili- ated activities. Student Council held a week-long com- petition for the spirit stick to be presented during the pep rally at the end of the week. A separate event was sponsored daily: Sweatshirt Day, Inside-Out Day, and Blue and Grey Day. The triumphant senior class was awarded the spirit stick. Also an- nounced at the pep rally were Mr. Home- coming winners: Mr. Ugly, Kelly Staggs; Mr. Hair, Bryan Spake; Mr. Macho, Glenn Dennis; Mr. Legs and Mr. Homecoming, Ben Williams. Participants from school clubs and classes competed in a contest for the best float. These floats were displayed in a Homecoming parade on Friday. Later that night, the winners of the competition were announced at the football game: 1st place, senior class; 2nd place, freshman class; and 3rd place, junior class. At kickoff of the Homecoming game, a total of 3119 balloons were released. This event was the finale of a week of balloon sales made by the Rebel Yearbook Staff. Over the course of the five days, each class fared well, but near the week’s end a fierce battle raged between the senior and junior classes. The senior class came out on top with a record 1136 balloons. The junior class snagged second place easily with 1055 balloons. The long week was capped off by the Rebel game against the Rockmart Yellow Jackets. Following the game. Student Council sponsored a dance featuring the band. Keeper. Although the Jackets reigned victorious, the Rebel spirit re- mained intact. Mr. Homecoming Ben Williams ac- cepts an enthusiastic hug from Mrs. Estep as Kelly Staggs, winner of Mr. Ugly, blows kisses to a crowd of admiring sophomores. Often captivating an audience by adapting original words to well- known tunes, here the cheerleaders are caught NOT spreading gos- sip. 14 Members of the Homecoming court, se- lected by their classmates, are escorted onto the field at half time of the Homecoming game. This year’s seniors are Marcee Mor- gan, escorted by Arlon McCall; Victoria Poole, escorted by Rae Brewer; Tracey Saxon, escorted by Michael Clayton; Cher- ise Thompson, escorted by Tony Taylor; and Julie Thornton, escorted by Sam Bowl- ing. Also on the court is one underclassman representing each class: Melanie Gable, a junior, escorted by Joe Robinson; sopho- more Kellie Cash, escorted by Greg Lanier, and freshman Jennifer Hutchison, escorted by Anthony Trantham. THE CROWNING OF THE QUEEN After a week of fierce competi- tion and celebration came the mo- ment that everyone had been awaiting, the crowning of the Homecoming Queen. Julie Ar- cher, the reigning queen, was given the honor of crowning HOPE WATSON ’87-’88 Homecoming Queen. Hope chose Brian Wilson to be her escort. Hope, who is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Dean Watson, is the president of the Art Club and the youth organization at Corinth Baptist Church, where she is a member. She is also secretary of the senior class and a representa- tive of the Student Council. Congratulations to HOPE WATSON, ’87-’88 Homecoming Queen. ms • • .. i fL+m i ---- rV . • .• • •. • • . • I • % • % i • • • % • • - .v; • • ■ . m 1 • yy. . . • ft . Other characters are Lady Bracknell and two butlers, Lane and Merriman. On December 5, after a public per- formance, the play was taken to Re- gion Competition at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where it won first place. After its victory at region and a second public performance, the play advanced to State Competition which was held in Americus, Georgia at Georgia Southwestern College. The cast. Student Director Amy Duke, Student Assistant Shelly Bowling, and Directors Mrs. Eloise Kalb, Mrs. Karen Chester, and Mr. Curtis Watson traveled to Americus for the competition. “The Importance of Being Earnest was announced as the State First-Runner-Up. A large trophy for the school and individual medals bearing the Georgia State Seal for the cast members were pre- sented. Meadowcreek High per- formed the State's winning play, “To Kill A Mockingbird. This is the first time that Haralson County has placed first in Region and the first year the cast has progressed to State level. Students later participated in the spring literary meet, which was held on March 19 at West Georgia Col- lege. With this year's record standing at 10-4-1, the team went on to compete in Region Playoffs, but was not able to capture the title of Region 7AA Champions. The highlight of the Rebel's season had to be the tremen- dous victory over our arch ri- vals, the Bremen Blue Devils, defeating them by over 50 strokes in 9 holes. Although the Rebels did not win a major title this year, they won a huge victo- ry for our school. 1.4 Hh Curt Downey, Joey Rutherford, and Brian Tucker REBEL BASEBALL TEAM Back Row: Craig Davis, David Skinner. The Rebelettes' success on the court helps to add dignity and pride to our overwhelming achieve- ments in athletic and academic fields this year. Coach Milford Snow; on his right, Lori Singleton, and on his left, Victoria Poole and Julie Dodson. — The Rebels owe many thanks to Coach Taylor. Ending his fourth season as head coach for Haralson County, Taylor has been a coach for thirteen years.
