THE I986 REBEL LOVIN' EVERY MINUTE OF IT Table of Contents Beginnings Seniors Juniors Sophomores Freshmen Honors Faculty Sports Band Clubs Ads Editors—Michael Lee Melissa Lanier Business Manager— Jerri Lynn Moody Advisor—Cathy Calhoun Haralson County High School Tallapoosa, Georgia Volume XVI What is a high school? When you think of a high school, what do you see? This is the picture that comes to me: A high school is people— teenagers and all. It's assemblies and classes and a rush in the hall It's panic at report cards; it's blue and grey; It's thrills and excitements that never go away. Suspense fills the hallways, and rivalry's keen. All yearn for a scholarship; who will be queen? A high school means projects and clubs with their fun, and everyone working till all tasks are done; Tense moments at ball games— will we win or not? That Rebel spirit means more than we thought! What is a high school? What is its story? We've told it here in all of its glory. 2 5 10 II HOMECOMING QUEEN 12 Homecoming The feeling of excitement ond high spirits filled Taylor Memorial Stadium on the night of October 11th as Homecoming 1985 finally ar- rived. The stadium was over- flowing with spectators when the Rebels stormed the field to take on sub-region foe, the Rockmart Yellow Jackets. As the ball was kicked off, 1284 balloons were released from under a parachute on the sideline. The red, blue, green, and yellow balloons slowly rose into the air and drifted away. The Seniors won the balloon release with 455 bal- loons. During halftime the Home- coming Court was introduced and each candidate was given a bouquet of red roses by Mr. Reeves. The 1984 reigning homecoming queen Laura Boalch was present to crown Miss Michelle McCall Home- coming Queen 1985. After the game was over the excite- ment moved inside the school where the band RUCKUS per- formed at the Homecoming Dance. She is considerate, helpful, and caring, and she wants what is best for her students. On first impression she seems to be very stern, but underneath this stern exterior lies a heart of gold. She will be missed at HCH, but we wish her the best. RALPH HILBURN Coach Hilburn has spent the last thirteen years coaching our basketball team to victo- ry. During these years he has had 244 wins and many other honors. He demands no more from the team than he puts into it. These qualities plus his fine coaching ability has made him a well-respected teacher. We, the yearbook staff, are proud to co-dedicate the REBEL '86 to Coach Ralph Hilburn. 82 ADMINISTRATION Melvin Reeves PRINCIPAL 1986 BOARD OF EDUCATION—Front Row: Superintendent Bob Downey, Members Tony Ellis, Diane Hamil, Back Row: Jack Nixon, Jimmy Lee, Jack Nix Sam Duke ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Helping Hands 2 $ oc -j Research Artists Sandra Lett Marion Stringer 84 Taking Care of Business Cheri Garner, Brenda Rutherford, Gail Pope Aiding Those In Need Diane Lee Darlene Farmer 85 Teaching The Language Sue Chandler Potty Hutcheson This year marks the third year for the computer course at HCH. Mrs. Darnell also taught some evening computer courses for adults this year, in addition to her four classes during the day. Curtis Watson Robert King Cathy Calhoun Karen Chester This year the Language Arts department has added Spanish to its curriculum. This past summer, while participating in Berry College's cheer- leader camp, they learned new cheers and routines, and the varsity squad won first place in the dance routine competition. During the 1985 football season H.C.H. was overflowing with spirit, initiated by cheer- leader button and ribbon sales and the strong leadership at the pep rallies. Ms. McPherson, the cheerleader sponsor for the past seven years, does a great job of keeping them in the swing of things. We, the 1986 Annual Staff, would like to thank Ms. McPherson and the cheerleaders for all their hard work. 114 Sports SENIORS: Tonya Harrison, Ronda Lyle, Kelly Morgan, Michele Harrison Sports 115 116 Sports LOVIN' EVERY MINUTE OF IT In the years past, Haralson County High School has been blessed with many great students. This year is no exception. These stu- dents not only learn from books, but also learn from their exper- iences while at HCH. These experiences are what make school memorable and fun. Fun is what is shown on these students' faces, for they are truly lovin' every minute of it. 117 REBEL BAND The Haralson County High School marching band has worked extremely hard this year and has given a great deal of time and effort to accomplish their goals. We hope these next few pages express the appreciation everyone at HCHS has for the 1985 REBEL MARCH- ING BAND. 119 DIRECTOR: Bill Nelson, ASST DIRECTOR: Greg Lofollette OFFICERS: Copt T. Students and sponsors take great pride in their activities. Here are just a few examples. The Student Council attends the sum- mer workshop at Berry College every year. They organize Homecoming activities, sponsor the Homecoming Dance, and are in charge of class elections. The Beta Club does many community projects such as helping to restore the old Haralson County Courthouse. Besides sponsoring the Miss Rebel Pageant, they also participate in drives to raise money for health foundations and give toys to needy children at Christmas. The 4-H members are very active in showing their cows, pigs, and lambs. In ad- dition to attending meetings at Rock Eagle, they also participate in many competitions and demonstrations. The Art Club visits the High Museum and the Birmingham Museum every year. Besides being responsible for making the Rebel Quilt for Homecoming, they do com- munity projects such as painting the wall at the bank and painting signs. The VICA students enter contests in many different vocational areas eoch year. They attend the area and region con- tests, and have hod several state winners. The contests start in February and April, and the state contests ore held in May. The VOCA students enter region con- tests in twenty-six different vocational areas. They enter the region contests in Atlanta, and the winners then compete at state level in St. Simons Island. 138 Lovin' Every Minute of It! 1. Rondo Lyle 2. Melissa Lanier 3.
