As HCHS band director, he has contributed much to the spirit and morale of our school. We appreciate, even if we don’t often say so, his long hours of hard work, his devotion to good music, and, especially, his gentle sarcasm and pleasant personality. It is with honor that we dedicate this volume of THE REBEL to MR. This year there were several lovely girls in the Senior court. At halftime during the Homecoming game the Homecoming court assembled on the field and waited anxiously for the announcement of Homecoming Queen. Suddenly a voice over the loudspeaker said. “The Homecoming queen for 1977-78 is Miss Neva Edwards!” Neva excitedly left her place on the court to be crowned by last year’s queen, Miss Vicki Spearman. 143 Lynn Waldrop escorted by Mark Waldrop Underclassmen Representatives 144 Homecoming Court and Escorts Mike Bell claims Mr. Homecoming title second consecutive year. Mr. Homecoming Fifties Day And Bonfire Each year Fifties Day is one of the continuing traditions carried out by the HCHS Student Council. The Fifties Day was a big success this year, and everyone involved enjoyed the nostalgic flavor provided by the students on that day. It was really the “cat's meow ! This year a new tradition was started at HCHS: the Homecoming Bonfire. The first bonfire was a huge success with over 200 people joining with the cheerleaders as the football players burned the Model Blue Devils. The Freshmen won first place with their devil. The Juniors got second place, followed by the Sophomores and Seniors. The bonfire proved to be a hint of things to come. The next night the Rebels, led by Ricky Carter and Ricky White, “burned” the Model Blue Devils in a 34-26 victory. Ricky Carter, Scott Robinson, and Brad Limbaugh were the scorers in the game. Grand Slam Plays For Homecoming Dance Something great happened at HCHS on October 7, 1977. The Rebels and their fans got down at the Homecoming dance after the Homecoming victory over Model at the game that night. But it was more than a dance—it was a celebration. The thrill of victory was in the air, and a fever of excitement spread through the crowd as everyone boogied to the sounds of Grand Slam. The dance was one of the best in a long time, and it will remain as a fond memory of the really good times at HCH. 147 Mr. And Miss H.C.H.S. Jeff Lenard Explorer’s Club 175 After six months in production, the 1978 edition of the REBEL is at last realized. It is difficult for people to conceive the problems incurred while producing an annual. There is an enormous range of pithy comments that might begin to describe the blood, sweat, and tears that went into the making of this book this year; yet, in retrospect, it would differ little from others. This year we chose what we feel is an appropriate theme for the REBEL: “Photographs and Memories.” We used several new techniques in photography, color design, graphics, and artwork in hopes of producing a more modern and creative book. We introduced more copy this year so that the annual would be a more meaningful and indispensable record of the past year, and not just a “picture book. We also felt that the added copy would more fully carry the theme throughout the book. We have attempted scrupulously to avoid the trite, and present a view of HCHS as it appears in the third quarter of the Twentieth Century. This year we are issuing over 550 copies of this year’s book-an increase over past year's sales and a testimony to its rising popularity. I feel I can speak for the REBEL staff in saying that we feel this is the most innovative, original, if not the best annual in the history of Haralson County High School. Now that it is finished, I have discovered the sad feeling that comes when it's all over. I can only thank everyone involved, and say that it was a heck of a lot of fun. — Jimmy Watson Ass't Bus. Manager REBEL staff 1977-1978 “The final shipment is due this week.'' “Has anybody seen the dummy?” I need another layout . . . and a pen.” Cornin’ through for you . . “All right! I finished the last page!” “Will somebody get the lights.” Goodbye everybody, see you tomorrow.”
