Georgia 30176 This “REB ’74 is dedicated to someone who has personal integrity and pride, and who strives for the best in life for himself and for the students he teaches. In his short time in Haralson County, he has brought about a change toward athletics, which has gain- ed him the respect of not only his students and athletes, but also the county as a whole. His personality is one of a winner, which has in- spired those he teaches and coaches. With these characteristics, he has strengthened the •‘REBEL” name. It is with great pride that the staff of “REB” ’74 dedicate this edition to Coach Ralph Hilburn. 2 West Haralson Table Prologue Happenings Organizations Athletics Faculty Seniors Buchanan Contents The Underclassmen Ads Tallapoosa The Beginning! 6 7 8 9 Superintendent’s Office Madison M Sanders. He was an easygoing, generous, likeable guy. All those who knew him realized that his height was nothing like “big” in comparison to his humility, kind heart and gentle nature. Words are hard to find that describe the feelings that are felt deep in the heart. The sweetest memories are those that bring back the good times; the experiences we share with others past and future, that we will never regret remembering. Gary Summerville A spirited young man who loved the feel of the wind on his face. Jerome was always on the go. searching for a direction in his life. He was never satisfied with the present; he was always looking for the future. He was a person who was liked by everyone and who enjoyed accepting a challenge. The memory of Jerome will stay with the Class of 74. 22 Jerome Dewberry CLASS OFFICERS: Class Of ’74 President Kathy Green Vice President Pam Key Secretary-Treasurer Terri Brown Reporter Robert Lowe AMY ABERNATHY GARRY AGAN DENNIS ALLEN 23 MELANIE ALRED SANDRA ARMSTRONG JoANN ARNOLD PAT AWALT TERESA AYERS TONY AYERS JANET BENTLEY YVONNE BELL RICKY BENEFIELD GINA BOSTICK GENE BROADSTREET GREGG BROADSTREET 24 JENNY BROWN TERRI BROWN WANDA BROWN THERESA BRYANT MARK CAIN RICKY CAIN BILL CALHOUN ANNA CARROLL BOBBY CARROLL 25 KATHY CARROLL JOEY CASH MARTHA CASH GALE CHEATWOOD BRUCE CASEY LYNN COSBY STEPHEN DANIELS 26 MARTHA DAVENPORT DENNIS DAVIS SHERRIE DAVIS TOMMY DAVIS JOEY DEES KA Y DEES KEITH DEWBERRY JULIE D HONDT DANE DINGLER 27 CHRIS DURR MIKE DUZAN WILLIE JOE ELDER JANICE ELLIOTT SAMMY ELLIOTT BARBARA GAINES JUDY FORTNER FRANCES GARNER JEFF FOSTER 28 PAM GARNER CORLEY GOLDIN w JOHNNY GOOLSBY TERRY GORE KAREN GREEN KATHY GREEN NANCY GREEN ROBBIE GREEN RANDALL GRIGGS 29 KEITH HALLMAN STEVE HAMILTON HARRY HAMMOCK ROBBIE HARVELL SAMMY HOBBS ROBERT HAYNIE SHERRY HOLDBROOKS DEBBIE HENSON JANICE HOLLINGSWORTH 30 RANDALL HUDGENS HUBERT HULSEY RAY HULSEY PAM KEY TERESA KILGORE VICKIE LAM1NACK 31 JUNIOR LAMBERT GAIL LAYTON ANN LITTLEFIELD SHARON LOCKLEAR ROBERT LOWE KEITH LYLES BILL MANN SHELIA MANN 32 ravonda McGinnis richard McGinnis LEN MeLARTY lamar McPherson VICKI MEDLIN DALE MILLER JEAN MOSLEY RENEE PACE DOYLE PATTERSON 33 A N THON Y PAY TON DONNA PERRY SUSAN POOLE ALLEN POOLE CATHY POPE DAN POPE LAMAR ROBERTS DAVID ROBERTSON ANN ROBINSON MARK SMITH KAREN SHARPTON KAREN SMITH MICHAEL SMITH MICHAEL JOE SMITH 35 SHEILA SWANN PATSY THOMPSON MIC HEAL TREADWELL JOE WADE SUSAN WADE DONNIE WALDROP DONALD WALLACE 36 DAN WARREN JOHNNY WILLIAMS MIKE WILLIAMS RICKIE WILLIAMS DEBORAH WILLINGHAM JON! B. Calhoun Sr. Bill Calhoun In choosing a STAR teacher. I decided that the one person who had contributed the most to my education would be my father. He has always been involved with the school as either a class-room teacher or principal, and even though he is my father. I was treated the same as anyone else. He has always been patient and understanding with people and I suppose he has to be to stay in school as long as he has. He never tried to make a power play to scare students into working but there was seldom any need for discipline. I believe that the key word here is understanding. To be a good teacher you must be able to understand the student and communicate with him. This is why I have chosen my father. C. B. Calhoun, Sr., as my STAR teacher. - Bill Calhoun 49 Senior Directory AMY ABERNATHY—Annual Staff 3.4; Business Editor 4. Coach Tommy Taylor, and Coach Frankie Bell When I look back upon the football season of 1973. I must say that you have made me extremely proud of you. The very fine 7-3 record which you achieved in the face of tremendous odds, is highly commendable. To the fifteen seniors who were members of tjiis team, please consider this advice. Approach the remainder of your life with the same unrelenting perseverance as this season and your victories will come to you. To those underclassmen who will be returning let us use this season as a stepping stone to higher achievements which I am sure you want as much as I. Finally, a sincere and humble Thanks to Coach Frankie Bell. Coach Tommy Taylor and Coach Tommy McGuire whose value to me during this season I cannot express in mere words.
