Senior Class Histor As we entered the halls of Happy Valley High School in l947, we wondered around scared and bewildered by the big issue facing us for the coming years. Seventy-two freshmen were registered and started out to win their goals and obiectives to be gained in high school. The highlight of our freshman year was the electing of Albert Peeks and Joyce Barnette as our king and queen representatives. Peggy Treadway was chosen Miss Freshman. As the year began to end we had happy days such as parties, receiving our annuals, and closing with all our woes behind. We then were ready to undertake another year of school. Coming in as sophomores, we each knew we had conquered one of the milestones. We had a busy life that year, such as the electing of Veneta Fair and Ted Maxwell as our candidates for king and queen, and Delores Buck as Miss Sophomore. That year we were privileged by having as our sponsors, Anita Goans and James Price. Social activities were enioyed to the fullest by all the sophomores. When our iunior year began, many had fallen from our ranks because of lack of zeal and knowledge. We then were Jolly Juniors . Great happiness came to us as we received our class rings, elected Hazel Gauge as Miss Junior, and had our parties. Our sponsors were Miss Cross and Mr. Gauge. During this year we were State Champs in basketball and several of our juniors were on the team. ln the fall of '50 we re-entered the halls of Happy Valley as Dignified Seniors . Several of our classmates were missing this year, including our coach, Mr. John Tread- way, to a neighboring school. He was re-placed by two wonderful fellows as well as coaches, Mr. Carl Gauge and Mr. R. C. Bayless. Our hats are off to them and the Watauga Conference Champs. We are proud that our football team has not lost a game in eight years. Congratulations Champs! As the days went to weeks, the weeks to months, we realized that our days at Ole H. V. were swiftly coming to a close. We elected Phil Garland as our class president and we deeply feel that our choice was a very good one. Veneta Fair represented our class as Miss Senior. The seniors enjoyed many a happy hour as we attended parties with our wonderful sponsors, Mrs. Treadway, Miss Collins, and Mr. Price. Our appreciation can never be told to the fullest. As we travel on toward new horizons we can never forget the days we spent in the halls and the classrooms at Happy Valley. To our dear, patient teachers we humbly wish to thank them for their helpfulness and continued interest in us. May the Senior Class of i950 never be forgotten in the hearts and minds of our lower classmen. Historian-Bonnie Snodgrass
