ave them Bannens hugh with pmoe. Oeolcatlon WE DEDICATE To the most outstanding person with whom we were privileged to be associated dtu'ing our school years, we pay this tribute of grateful recognition to him who has proved himself to be an invaluable asset to our school. It is for his undying faith in Happy Valley High School and for his untiring devotion and interest in the students that we seek to honor MR. CHARLES A. PARLIER, Prin- cipal of Happy Valley School, by dedicating to him the 1966 edition of the Aguila. All those who have known Mr. Parlier as principal of our school and have served under his guidance for four, or perhaps all twelve years, have found him to be a friend, a person of leadership, and one who is certainly deserving of this dedication. A TRIBUTE TO CHARLES A. PARLIER To evaluate a person's worth is somewhat difficult to put into words. Mr. Charles A. Parlier has been in school work for a total of thirty-eight years. During this period, he has served well, both as a teacher and as a principal. The greater part of his career has been the principalship of the Happy Valley Schools. My first association with him was in the early thirties when we were graduate stude nts at the University of North Carolina. We met often on the tennis courts. To know a person well is to know him in play. I remember him as an exemplary Sportsman. This quality has carried over i.nto his profession and his work. Later, we were fellow principals in the schools of Caldwell County. In competitive sports, my pupils often remarked, We like to play the Happy Valley teams. They are such good sports. This was largely due to the leadership of the principal, Charles A. Parlier. In Appneclatlon BECAUSE. ..you have been an inspiration and a friend to each of us, because we all admire and respect you, not only for your teaching ability, but also for your wonderful sense of humor and friendly, winning smile, because you have strived to the utmost to teach us in the classroom and to lead us to victory on the basketball court and the baseball diamond, we dedicate a portion Of this page to you, MR. STEVE C RIS P, to show our appreciation and to say. . . THANKS. . As superintendent of C a l dw e ll County Schools for tvventy-five years, it was my privilege to serve with him. All of this period he was principal of the Happy Valley School with the exception of one year when he ventured into the business world. Being the professional man he is, his love for young people brought him back into the field of education. Never was there a more loyal fellow worker than Charlie Parlier. I never knew him to shirk a task-large or small. He always responded with a hundred per cent effort and a smile. One of his many great attributes is his friendly dispo- sition. Many of his former pupils now out in the field of life have stated to me their love and affection for Mr. Parlier. They would always close the discussion of their high school days with remarks about his friendly attitude and his willingness to help his students. Many times he has called me about problems some of his boys and girls were having in school. He always took his work seriously. His sincerity gave him the res- pect of his students, his teachers, and patrons of his school. But few principals make for themselves such a long and enviable record of service in their school com- munities as has Mr. Parlier. This man has contributed gre atly to the teaching profession not only the Happy Valley School community, but also to the Caldwell County School System and to the state of North Carolina. Very few school people ever attain such a long tenure in one school and still retain the love, admiration, respect, and appreciation of so many people. Charlie Parlier has been truly a great school man. I am glad to have had the opportunity of serving with him for most of his long career in the teaching profession. C. M. Abemethy -- . ,t M...
