SYNOPSIS OF SPORTS The Happy Valley girls, coached by Mrs. A. G. Swift, started out the basketball season true to the H. V. form. All games, including practice games, were won until the last few games when the girls weakened by winter colds and illnesses lost two conference games and tied one practice game. High- scores for all games alternated between Virginia ,Sullivan and Gale Hartley. Of the nineteen games played all season, Gale Hartley scored highest for ten of them and Virginia Sullivan for the remaining nine. The total points scored by Hartley in all conference games was 385 and by Sullivan 275. Happy Valley girls won the County Tournament, while placing four on the All- Tournament Team. By this all may see that the Happy Valley Girls are keeping up their record of years past of being a winning team. The Happy Valley boys, under the able leadership of Coach Charles Hathaway, this year came up with the best boy's team Happy Valley has had in four years. The team boasted of no individual star, but was a team of five boys working together. At different times during the year, seven different boys reigned as high scorer. In the twenty-one games played this year, Happy Valley boys won thirteen, while losing eight. H. V. scored l,O42 points, to their opponent's 965. Austin was the leading scorer with 262 points. lones was second with 206, followed' by Gragg with l33 and Clarke with ll2. Coach Hathaway described his team as a hard-working, co-operative group of boys who gave the game everything they had at all times. ln the Caldwell County Conference the H.
