CLASS PROPHECY This was my first big assignment as a reporter and I was very exc1ted as I boarded the bus for Purpleville I was to interview the people that made this town famous As I entered the town I was astonished at the strange coloring When I inquired about this I was informed the town was designed by the famous architect, Elaine L1lleodden The buildings were twenty stories high, but Elaine had omitted the first ten stories Every thing was painted purple and chartreuse My first stop was at the local high school Here I found Denny teaching Shakespeare to a group of glgglmg girls He told me that during his spare time he was an instructor at an Arthur Murray school I found Jeannie in a girl s academy She has devoted her life to teaching young girls the fine art of embroidering pillow cases She IS also president of Leage of Abolition of Men ' This is a club she formed soon after leaving high school I asked Jeannie to accompany me on my Journey about the town She asked me who I wanted to see first and I said I would like to see Ethel As we walked down the street I gazed into a floral shop and thought I saw a familiar face I told Jeanme about this and she said it was Norma She told me that Norma ha become a specialized gardener and was not producing trees and shubbery that grew down lnstead of up A l1ttle further down the line I noticed a beautiful church Jeannie led me inside and who should I see but Ethel She had entered a seminary soon after graduatxon and darling boys It was getting late in the afternoon so I decided to go to my hotel room and rest up a b1t so I would be able to enyoy the sights of the town at night In the lobby of my hotel I met non other than Donnie Quam He was almost as surprised to see me as I was to see h1m He had become a famous television comedian and had just returned from an overseas assignment entertaining communists to lower their moral One of the many things he brought back with him was a beautiful Japanese bride He asked me to Join him and his wife for dinner As we entered the d1n1ng room I heard a familiar voice singing I glanced up at the stage and my eyes fairly popped There stood Shirley pourmg out her heart Donnie told me she had taken singing lessons and was a very famous nightclub entertainer After dinner I gold Donnie and his wife good bye and was on my merry search When I stepped out into the darkness I saw brlght lights flashing the name of Pat Strom As I came near I noticed this was a theater Now what would they domg with Pat s name? After reading a billboard I found out she was starring in that particular movie Marilyn Monroe had been poisoned so Pat was her step in and was domg very well in her place As I continued on my way I met Donnie Miller I asked him what he was domg to keep himself busy He told me that he was bookkeeper for the Salvation Army center in town He told me he was having a tough time because it was on the verge of bankruptcy It was getting late so I decided to secure help from Donnie in finding information about his former classmates He informed me that One had turned out to be the athlete of the class He signed up with the Minneapolis Lakers and IS playing center Just last year he was chosen The Best Athlete of the Yea . u ' 4 a . n , I . . . . . d had been a minister for five years.
