A graduate from Hanover, Mrs. Virtue attended Wheaton College, Wheaton. Illinois, for two years from 1933-1935. She also taught at Eureka School, Stockton township from 1935-1938. From 1938-1940 Mrs. Virtue taught at Lost Mound School in Hanover Township. Any spare time she had from teaching was spent studying courses at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. For ten years while her children were growing up, she spent time being a substitute teacher. Mrs. Virtue has since retired from teaching and remains active and up to date with our school and community. I wish to thank the graduating Seniors for all their contributions to the school. To the underclassmen, I wish to remind you that your graduation will be upon you much sooner than you realize. Take advantage of your opportunities; go out for extra-cur- ricular activities. Take the course of study that will help you open the doors to a career you may wish to follow. Your few short years in school are your best years, learning new materi- al, student associations, activities, and the freedom to partici- pate in activities. Seniors, remember, be faithful to yourself, your parents, your church, and your community. Most of all, do not dissap- point yourself. Best wishes to all. Mr. Murphy SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE My congratulations to the Class of 1982. As you leave Han- over High School, it is my hope that you take with you the de- sire to learn and the knowledge which you have acquired. In our rapidly changing society, you will need a firm foun- dation from which to embark on the new and challenging fac- ets of your life. The knowledge you have will be that foundation. The desire to learn will provide the key to conquering the challenges ahead, and allow you to keep pace with the changes around you. I have enjoyed being a part of your education. Congratula- tions again and best of luck in your future goals and ambitions. Kent A. Hammer 23 26 OUR HIGH SCHOOL YEARS Our Freshmen year was a pitiful sight. Upperclassmen always wanted to fight. We were deathly afraid to be in the halls. Fearing our faces would be smeared to the walls. With every Freshman fearing of that dreadful Slave Day, Tortures came to us in many ways. Yes, our Freshmen year went by mighty fast, And we wondered if we would ever last. Our Sophomore year went a little bit faster. As Driver's Ed. commenced the horrible disaster. From demolishing trash cans to hitting parked cars, Some people began to visit the “Courthouse Bars. We were picked on less. As there were underclassmen who were not the best. Our Sophomore year, we began to mature; therefore. The remaining years we could endure. Our Junior year was the best of all. From Spring and Summer to Winter and Fall. Although our team really got canned. We still put in our time at the concession stand. Homecoming and Prom are our only chances, For it was a tradition that we raise the money, So each could take their honey. And so our Junior year was a great big joke, ’Cause all the festive events made us go broke. Our Senior year is just about done. Our life here is thru, but we’ll start a new one. In the Service? Off to college? On to marriage? Some will be pushing the baby carriage. We’ve left some memories, good ones and bad. Leaving this school will be very sad. Through the years we’ve done so much together. And the memories of that will live with us forever. Our Senior year is our final good-bye. So now it’s time to break every tie. For soon our Senior year will die. But we will always remember good ole HHS, For it has taught us the best. UNDERCLASSMEN T. Miller M. Murphy D. Nance M. Pettera P. Pettera T. Bonar J. Bonjour A. The Fresh-Soph team, on the other hand, lost the first con- ference match and finished the rest of the conference season undefeated, winning the first place bars for the season and the tournament. The loss next year of Peggy, Brenda, and Suzanne will be difficult to replace, but we have depth and talent from this year's Sophomore class and are hoping for a strong showing in the conference next year. We took second in the confer- ence and made it to the semi-finals of the regional. The team should be proud of its accomplishments. This team was made up of win- ners. Let’s keep this tradition going. Remember, when the team wins, the whole school wins. Congratulations “Big Red”! Coach Rumor 35 BOYS' BASKETBALL VARSITY Front: D. Miller (Manager), P. Mills, K. Also, they were members of the first seventh grade team that I coached in bas- ketball. Later, I was to follow them as their coach throughout High School. Through it all, I trust a lasting friendship has developed that will exist for a lifetime. The class is an extremely dedicated and hard working group. I know these kids have a great deal of character, and they will per- sist in their efforts to succeed. The future will present many challenges to the Class of “82”. I am confident they will answer each challenge admira- bly! Coach Becker 37 GIRLS' BASKETBALL VARSITY Row 1: A. Looney, J. Peterson, Mr. Tc- berg, B. Haring, M. Murphy. Row 2: M. Pettera. K. Hopkins. The close games didn’t go our way this year. A two point loss to Elizabeth and a four point loss to Scales Mound cost us the conference championship. A two point tournament loss to Scales Mound cost us the opportunity to play for the conference tournament championship. Despite these close losses, the girls played their hearts out and never let either my- self or their teammates down. Congratulations to our all-con- ference selections. Jennifer Peterson was named to the first team, Brenda Haring and Karen Hopkins were named to the second team. This team was one of the finest groups of young people I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I would like to wish the Seniors the best of luck! Coach Tehcrg 39 ALL CONFERENCE: Row 1: M. Wild, B. They contributed much of their time raising money through flea markets, raffles, sales and even a dinner theatre. The money raised was donat- ed to our school so that we would be able to keep extra curricular activities such as girls’ basketball and boys’ base- ball. We greatly appreciate all their effort and time.
