Many weeks of preparation showed their worth. Thursday night, the students assembled for a bon-fire, and pep rally. Music, cheers, talks, and a large fire highlighted the evening. Concentration on Homecoming day was dif- ficult because of all the excitement that lay ahead. The parade, organized by the Student Coun- cil, went off very well. The floats were better than ever, and the bands added much to the parade. The Marching Red Devils out-shined them all. After the parade, pre-game tension was really beginning to affect the players; but they pulled through to score a big victory over Hazel Green. The half time activities finally arrived. They consisted of Mr. Hopper's marching Red Devils, the announcing of parade winners and the crowning of the Homecoming Queen by the honorary football captain. 20 964- 965 Late into many nights the Seniors worked in pre- paration for the Homecoming parade. Although we worked hard, we also had our fun. It was well worth it as the Senior again pulled through with first place. The float consisted of a large typewriter with the caption, The News Is Out--Hanover Slams Hazel Green. The Juniors blew in second with a very fine float. Their float represented a windmill-true Holland fashion, as it was surrounded by a picket fence and bright tulips. For their caption they chose We'U Mill the Wind out of Hazel Green. Next the Sophomores, who placed third, reminded us that it was Naut-A-Laus, which it wasn't. Last but not least the Freshman class had a fine float backed with lots of enthusiasm. They'll be helping make the next three Homecomings suc- cessful . The band goes through their pre-parade jitters. It was their first Homecoming parade under the di- rection of Mr. Hopper. The band works very hard weeks ahead preparing for their Homecoming show. 21 Row 4: G. Jones, L. Zigler, D. Kuepker, L. Zigler, S. Steffes, D. Patterson, E. Engel, D. Reitz, B. Foht. Without a doubt, we students of Hanover can’t boast that we won the most games, but we can be proud of the fact that we practiced sportsmanship; to lose a game with your chin up certainly is an achievement. All our games were exciting, especially our Homecoming game; Hanover beat Hazel Green 38 to 6. To receive a major letter in football, a Hanover gridiron player must be in at least eleven quarters of action during the year. Many people don't realize that, besides the action the boys see in the game, diligent and faithful practice is required of each participant. The four-fold purpose of this group is: to promote a knowledge and interest in good government, to encourage each student to feel his responsibility to himself and his school, to encourage a spirit of co- operation among the students and faculty, and to aid in the development of loyal constructive spirit. The first big activity of the year for the Student Council was the Homecoming event. First of all came the bon-fire and pep rally. The night of Homecoming started out with the parade followed by the football game. The evening was highlighted by the big Homecoming Dance. In the field of service, the Student Council worked on preparing a Student Handbook which consisted of rules and regulations which each student is required to follow. Also, the student handbook gives the re- quirements for each subject and the requirements for entering college after high school. Together with the faculty, administration, and school board, the Student Council made up a fine Student Handbook. Revonah Staff SEATED: J. Richmond, C. Mitchell, Mr. Doyle, B. Whalen, Mr. Johnson, J. In the past, important events at the close of the year have never been in- cluded in the Revonah. However, this year we are making this possible by having a year-around production with the annual coming out in the following fall. We are striving to make this the very best Revonah yet. The Seniors would like to thank Mr. Johnson and Mr. Doyle for all the time and effort they have contri- buted to the yearbook. We hope that the purpose of the yearbook will be fulfilled and will bring you many pleasant memories. 32 Juture Zeae hers of America Juture Homemakers of America ROW 1: Jim Flies, Beverly Delury, Mrs. Morrison, Linda Unangst, Diane Bell, Ray Stewart. Our Future Teachers of America Club was originated by Frank L. and Helen S. Burns. Hanover is one of five clubs in the surrounding area which holds annual fall and spring meetings together. The fall of 1964, our school sponsored the fall meeting and over one hundred members from schools of the area attended. As future teachers we pledge; physical vitality, mental vigor, moral discrimination, wholesome per- sonality, helpfulness, knowledge, and leadership. These things will we do now that we may be worthy the high office of teacher. ROW 1: Jackie Buman, Ellen Neil- sen, Nancy Eastman, Jane Speaker, Kathy Speer, Kathy Ballien, Karen Eastman. The Future Homemakers of America is a national organization of pupils who study homemaking throughout their high school years. We work together for better and happier home life for everyone. We feel that helping to make happy homes now and in the future is the most important thing we can do for democracy. During the 1964-1965 school year, the F.H.A. has kept busy planning and participating in many activities. At the close of the school year, we acted according to our motto — toward new horizons , by elec- ting new officers for the coming school year. Our president will attend a summer F.H.A. camp along with thousands of other girls. She will learn more about our organization and will therefore be preparing her- self for the job of leading and improving the Hanover F.H.A. organization in the future. librarians SEATED: Diana Bell, Donna Schweitzer, Mrs. Wilbricht, Hilda Haarman. State Representative The names of several outstanding vocalists and instrumen- talists are submitted each fall (preferably Seniors) to go to the district division of ALL-STATE MUSIC. Of those submitted this year three band and three chorus members were accepted by the district committee of music teachers to go to Ottawa, Illinois to perform in a large band and chorus of students in District 2 (seven counties). Besides performing here, each stu- dent had an opportunity to try out for the All-State Chorus and Band to perform in Peoria for the State Convention of Music Teachers in January. A very rigid test was given on tonal memory, sight reading, and intonation. For the first time we had someone who passed all the tests--Clifford Mitchell.
