The Devils' touchdowns were scored by Jake Cooper, Tom Miller, Gary Lar- son, David Henke, Jerry Miller, and Roger Streight. Next the Devils entertained Cassville for their first home game of the season. The Dev- ils proved too much of a power for the Cassville team and defeated them 32-O. The Devils' scores came on a pass to David I-lenke, a twenty-yard score by Tom Miller, a return of an intercepted pass by Roger Streight for an eighty-yard touchdown, a thirty-yard score by Jake Cooper, and an intercepted pass returned fifteen yards by David Henke. Then the Devils traveled to Potosi with a record of two wins and no defeats. The Devils took the early lead simply with the power of their running, blocking, and passing. The Dev- ils' scores came on runs by Tom Miller, Jerry Miller, Jake Cooper, Roger Straight, also with passes to Roger Streight, David Henke, and Jerry Miller. The Devils won 55-32, for their third straight victory with no defeats. Next was the big event of Homecoming when all the alumni would return home to cheer the Devils on to victory. This is usually the biggest crowd of the year, but with the swell showing the team has been making they've broken most of the schools attendance records, and this was to be no exception. The Devils jumped off with two touchdowns in the first quarter, but couldn't seem to get going after that, and at the half led 12-6. When theboys came back onto the field they must of really got a chewing out because no sooner had the second half started when they scored a touch- down. They went on to score two more in the fourth quarter to defeat Shullsburg 32-6. The Devils scores came on passes to David I-Ienke, and Jerry Miller and runs by Jake Cooper, and Roger Streight. Then the Devils traveled to Belmont where they won their fifth straight game 38-17. The Devils scored the first time they got the ball and again later in the first quarter. They scored twice in the second quarter to make the score 25-7 at half time. The Devils opened up the second half with a big drive and scored twice in the third quarter. The Devils' scores were made by Roger Streight, Jake Cooper, and the three passes to David Henke. The Devils won by a score of 38-17. When the Devils entertained Gratiot which decided the title winner there was approxi- mately fifteen-hundred fans, that attended the game. The Devils took the opening kickoff, but were unable to move the ball, so Gratiot took over, but the Devils' big defense held them to almost no gain. When the Devils' powerful offense took over they began to move the ball toward a touchdown, finally Roger Streight ran fifty-five yards for the Devils' first touchdown. Nine plays later the Devils scored on a pass from Streight to Jerry Miller, and at halftime the Devils led 12-6. To open up the second half the Devils scored on a four yard gain by Jake Cooper, and later on a gain by Roger Streight. The Devils once in the last period, but had al- ready proved they were too much for Gratiot as the Devils easily won 37-19. For the last game of the season the Devils traveled way up to Bloomington which was quite a long ride for the boys on the uncomfortable school bus. However, the boys had something to celebrate on the way home because they were the first Devils to win a Blackhawk Con- ference Championship and the first to go unde- feated in the schools history. The final score at the end was the Devils 26 and Bloomington 7.
