Volleyball Team Captures District Silver Even though the season record of the hawkette Volley- ball Team wasn't as impressive as last year's 13-2 season, this year will never be forgotten by the team. The 8-7 season was a growing experience for the rather short team. With only two returning starters from last year and little height, the hawkettes had to work hard for their victories. The starting lineup was Jill Martlaub, Tonya Helt- zel, Robyn Leppo, Jenny Staub, LeAnne Jones, and Kerry Baumgardner with Michelle Rebert, Karen Chronister, Kel- ly Shaffer, and Kelly Wisensale as substitutes. They were rearranged many times, allowing those girls who were working and improving to earn greater playing time. The win over South Western and a tough 3-game match against Susquehannock were memorable for the team, but District competition will probably be the fondest memory. The hawkettes captured the silver medal again, but the best part of the competition was the defeat of Delone! Tor the team, which consisted mainly of Seniors, the desire to send Delone home was more important than anything else. That final win made the whole season worthwhile. A Building Year For Golf Team Under Mew Coach, Mrs. Wetzel, And Female Players It was a building year for the Mawk golfers, under first year coach Mrs. Wetzel. The team was 11 men and 2 women strong, with underclassmen dominat- ing most of the varsity spots. Even though there weren't as many wins as they had hoped for, every- one used the season to build their own game: wheth- er it be dropping a couple strokes off an average, perfecting a tee shot, or chipping more accurately. Greg Smith 'and Betsy Spooner went to the County Qualifing Round, and Betsy went on to the Girls Dis- trict Tournament. A lot of time was spent on practice and matches, but everyone had a good time. Hopefully they can use the experience from this year to make the team better in the future. Right: Greg Smith sights his shot. OOLF TEAM: Row 1: J. Bahl, O. Smith. K. Alban, O. Keriazes. S.
