Hawkette Tennis Team Clinches County Title For Third Consecutive Year The Hanover Hawkette Tennis Team, under the guidance of Mr. Palmer, still remains ahead of the rest. They have clinched the York County Championship for the third con- secutive year. These 15 girls surely can hold their heads up with pride! Not only do they look great on court, but they also know how to play tennis and win with dignity. Believe it or not, this team did more than earn a champion- ship; they also secured themselves a place in HHS's record book. They had a winning streak of 34 victories, the best streak ever at our high school. This streak consists of many nervewracking, close matches, but the Hawkettes always dug deep and found the strength to come out on top. The team consisted of fifteen dedicated players, only three of which were seniors. These senior players - Jessie Bie- secker, Lori Patterson, and Colleen Bahl - will be greatly missed. They provided leadership and spirit throughout the year. But with the remaining talent, next year should be just as great. The winning atmosphere that has been created on those Hanover courts has just begun and is not about to be forgotten. Right: Second Seed, Lori Patterson. TEMNIS TEAM: Row 1: B. Ehrhart, J. Volleyball Team Captures District Silver Even though the season record of the hawkette Volley- ball Team wasn't as impressive as last year's 13-2 season, this year will never be forgotten by the team. The 8-7 season was a growing experience for the rather short team. With only two returning starters from last year and little height, the hawkettes had to work hard for their victories. The starting lineup was Jill Martlaub, Tonya Helt- zel, Robyn Leppo, Jenny Staub, LeAnne Jones, and Kerry Baumgardner with Michelle Rebert, Karen Chronister, Kel- ly Shaffer, and Kelly Wisensale as substitutes. They were rearranged many times, allowing those girls who were working and improving to earn greater playing time. The win over South Western and a tough 3-game match against Susquehannock were memorable for the team, but District competition will probably be the fondest memory. The hawkettes captured the silver medal again, but the best part of the competition was the defeat of Delone! Tor the team, which consisted mainly of Seniors, the desire to send Delone home was more important than anything else. That final win made the whole season worthwhile.
