Bonfire Finally Gets Lit . . . Again The traditional bonfire finally was lighted on October 22, 1987, prior to the game with York Catholic. Although usually held before the South Western game, this year's bonfire was rained out on this scheduled date. Arsonists attempted twice to set it afire. The first attempt was doused by the fire compa- nyjust prior to the rescheduled bonfire. The second time the fire company allowed the fire to bum out. Within twenty-four hours, students had gathered enough wood to build another bonfire for the game with York Catholic. 16

lew Look Sparks Band To Championship The Hanover Marching Band had a magnificent 1987-88 season. Their show consisted of four songs - The Hopak, The Story of My Life, Children of Sancheq, and Echano. The band performed under the direction of Mr. Galen Lietzel and drum majors Tanya Baker and Carrie Davis. In their first competition at East Pennsboro High School, they came in first place with a score of 66.95. The Hawks also received trophies in best music, best marching and maneu- vering, and best band front. This was a major achievement for the start of the season. In Lewistown they went on to score a 65.5, coming in first place once again. The band's next competition was special, for it was the first time to show off their new uniforms. At this performance in Morgantown, West Virginia, the band came in second with a score of 79.75, disappointedly missing first place by one-tenth of a point. The next weekend was to be the highlight of the fall after working hard all season. The Mighthawk Band made their performance of the year at the Tournament of Bands Chapter VI Championships in Westminster, Maryland. The hard work paid off, and Hanover became the Chapter VI Group 2 Cham- pions with a score of 80.05. This won the Hawks a spot in the Atlantic Coast Championships in Ben Salem, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately the band came in thirteenth place. In May the Nighthawks traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for their Spring Trip. Top: BRASS: Row 1: A. Shriner, P. Thomas, D. foreman. Row 2: A. Birgens- mith, J. Sullivan, M. Baum; Row 3: B. Eisner, D. hart, S. Ryon. Bottom Left: DRUM MAJORS: C. Davis, T. Baker. Bottom Right: nice sound, Megan.
