JUNIORS The main goal of the Juniors, this year, was to raise money for the Senior Prom and the 1975 yearbooks. In addition to selling subscriptions in the annual magazine sale, the Class of '75 sold Hanover Nighthawk License Plates, held a sub sale, and presented a Christmas Dance featuring the local group, Sindicate. On the other hand, The Juniors experienced many fun times including decora- ting the Homecoming ear, presenting a class play, showing spirit for their school during Pride Week, and finally planning and decorating for the Prom. Its nucleus was 22 returning lettermen. The team started in August and went through three weeks of double and triple practice sessions in 900 heat. It developed into a team that looked like a contender. After the season opener, in which the Hawks bowed 14-7 to their arch-rival Delone, the team came back to defeat its next two opponents, Vo-Tech, and York Central. Then, they suffered a shocking 4-7-13 loss to York Suburban. But the Hawks bounced back winning their next four. The defense allowed only four TD's in the last six games shutting out South Western , West York, and Spring Grove. The offense came on strong to compile a 289.7 yards per game average. ln the next to last game of the season, the Hawks saw their hopes of a championship dwindled as Red Lion scored in the last two minutes of a game led almost entirely by the Hawks. The last TD made the final score 14--13. The Hawks led in almost all statistics, except those on the score board. The Hawks ended in a tie for second with a 7-3 log, the best in nine years at HHS. ln the post-season the Hawks had six players nominated All-County, two honorably mentioned for All-state, and the team as a whole was ranked seventh in Central Pennsylvania class B schools. The team was hampered all season by injuries and illnesses. Captain Dwight Michaels, who had a 6-5 log, missed two matches because of illness. When he came back, Rick Walker, 1-4, was out for the season with a wrist injury. Tom Garrett, 4-4, missed one match due to a toe injury. Several underclassmen gained experience as a result of the injuries and illnesses. Junior Dennis Northcraft compiled squad's best record, a 10-4 log. Don Small, a sophomore. finished 4-9. Sophomores Roy Bream and Jeff Shultz also gained much experience for the future. With several players returning, the Hawks can look to better things next year. H.H.S. The Nighthawks opened their hardwood campaign with a loss to the very tallented Easton team. But the Hawks bounded right back to beat their cross town rival, Delone, for the first time in Five years. The next two games were nip and tuck battles, however the Hawks lost both. One to Carlisle and the other to a regular season opponent, West York, Hawks won the next eight games in a row, beating a tough Central team. and going over the century mark twice. Also downing Southwest making Hanover's winning streak against the Mustangs 23 in a row. The winning streak was stopped by Dallastown, but the Hawks responded by setting a new school scoring record, by beating Kennard-Dale 118 to 65. The Hawks then won the next six games, with a victory against West York avenging their opening game loss. Hawks set a York country league record by beating Northeastern 127 to 67. The Nighthawk club then won some pride back for Hanover by defeating Red Lion in over-time. The Hawks then lost to Central creating a tie for first place in the western division which meant that the Hawks would have to play Central again for western division honors. but again Central came out on top. The Hanover Hawks then proceeded to District three Class B Play- offs. Hanover's first two opponents were Boiling Springs and Conrad Weiser who both fell before the terrorizing Hawks. Our cagers then met third seeded East Pennsboro. Hanover played one of the finest first halves in Nighthawk history, with their many fast breaks outscoring East Pennsboro 54 to 39, but they could not keep up their momentum, and the final score was 90 to 84- favor of East Pennsboro. The Hawks also gained honors by having two senior players on York County League All Star squad. Bill Keith and Walter Strausbaugh. The Hawks had sixteen wins and three losses in the league and were nineteen and seven overall. J.V. team won their division for the second time in a row and ended the season with a 18 and 1 record. I think that next years team again will be at the top of the league and one of the best in the state. Keep up the good work, Guys. W - ffwb Qi -fret :L 5,5 .,.. Junior Mike Noel pleases the crowd After a three year building program under the direction of head coach Terry Conover and his assistant, Gregory Albrecht, the Nighthawk grapplers proved themselves in York County league competition. The Hawks rounded out their 1974 campaign with a nine and uve record, the host in years. The season began with a bad break when victory dwindled away because of a default in thc heavyweight bout against York High. Hanover then defeated the next 3 teams outscoring them 117 to 45. Hanover made a first by winning the Westminster Christmas Tournament with four individual champs. They solidly beat out Westminster who ranked second in the state of Maryland. Our wrestlers next met three of the tougher teams in the league with each match going down to the wire, hut the Hawks t-ould not get it all together. losing to all three, runnerup Dover by three points and third place West York hy five points. Next on Tab lay arehrival, Southwestern, and the Nighthawks really got psyvhed. They handed them a loss with a score of 25 to 21, making it the first victory evcr against the herd. Flying high, they preceded to Harrisburg to tear up the Bishop Mt-Devil team. The Hawks continued their winning ways by beating a good central team and shutting out Northeastern 63 to nothing, a near perfect match Q72-Ol. Red Lion and Susquehannock, both tell at the hands ofthe Hawks. The Hanover team had been gaining momentum for the grand hnale, the next match against undefeated Dallastown. With a winning skein of 6, the Hawks went out to smash D-town. Our grapplers won live of the first six houts and had their opponents hacked against a wall, But victory was not meant to he ours and the final score was 22 to 20. Dallastown had won but were given the supreme battle. Now, the wrestlers prepared for the District Three Class B tournament with two of them, Keith Zartman at 105 and Rick Northcraft at 132, taking third and second, respectively, in the South Central Regional. These two preceded to the State tournament where both fell to defeat the hrst clay. The javees had a very good season and finished forth with a record of ten and four. Next year the Hanover squad has seven returning lettermen and with support from our .l.V. team. they should he at the top of the league. ,gl A .Xl wi M ,If N g ..,.,,,,,a gaafyas we-it lftyfgfffag is fa ff: Mg, 1 weQs-'tfs.':Kfif5w:r5seiffap?f:sfS?.fofsmaztlmstgy-gas, J gre-gt , 5 :g3gsyf:ii,gsfQi fS 05 1'5Kf'Sf5fff'?.i's2fsiQ5tiqL..fQhI5t:..rW'fft 'fl'JI 'nt-, i ' N NEQQZPN , ,tv we ., pf: Q.: A i rr'e ft iss , . t t Rt? f t J iriillxeft 'V at saseysafef-,sf tw uf, 1 .-fa , ., .. as 'Mio . s. f 1, 5, Q,-,i...uff 'ge' I f.,.f.,fl ..: A51 .,g9,s5,,:,,ik. . .. . .. The Hawks were setback in their opener against Littlestown but could not be kept down. They beat a tough New Oxford team 77 to 73. The Hanover cinder- men appeared to be on the end of a yo-yo because they went down to defeat and again they came back on top by smashing Northeastern 101 to 39. The Hanover team then lost and won another pair of meets. Finally, the trackmen lost the last two meets to two of the local schools. There were some highlights of the season such as Don Seidenstricker setting a new school record in the pole vault of twelve feet and six inches. He also won first place in the same event at the All-York County meet. Al McLin, a sophomore, had two thirds, one in the hundred yard dash and the other in the 220. With a sophmore like Al McLin and many other good underclassmen, HHS should have a fine track team next year. Good luck! l . The batmen of H.H.S. out-hit the opposition in all but two of their outings. When the team was hot. it proved itself by downing Southwestern 11-0 and 11-4 and Delone 12-0. Three Hawk Sluggers batted homeruns. Tim Bowers knocked one out ol' the park against Southwestern as did Scott Mummerl. Andy Sneeringer belted one against the Dover nine.
