I , K-5 ITT f-J LQ Soccer RCVIGVV f ANOVER ldigh had a very successful season last fall A larger schedule I than befor was played The feature of the season was the taklng of second place in the Mason Dixon Soccer League thereby getting a fine little cup lhe game by which the team won the cup was played against Llttlestown on a very wet field and in the rain Here the boys showed their ability and tra ning by completely overwhelming their opponents by a 4 to l score Although the team lost both ofthe I Sc M games they are to be credited for the fine showing against them and for the spirit displayed during and after the games Under the coaching of Mr fiantt these teams went through the season Practice was held and games played on the schedule regardl s of the con dition of the field or we ather lhe trainlng of the boys showed up under this and proved that they were in fine cond tion Much credit 1 due Coach Cantt for giving his time and lnst uctlon to the boys to enable them to have had such a successful season training the second team received together with some of the xarsity subs we feel certain that a hne team will again appear wearing the Orange and Black next fall Captain Pope Morning was shifted from half back to goal at the be ginning of the season lle held this position down in fine style the goal being crossed but 71 times throughout the season Captain elect Lingg played a fast game at the inside left forward position lhe other fellows in that ewer penetrating line were Lank C recnaway at center forward Cow Baughez at outside right Hilbert at inside right and Sterner at outside left Dick Houck although small of stature played a fast snappy game ID some of the varsity games on the line Irish Sullivan at right half became famous for his speed in getting under the ball john Crawford at center half was the main fellow in the hrst defense Bird Sheely and Patch eye lVlart7 shared the positlon of left half which completed the first defense Ape Smith with his aerial playing and Mose Moul completed the hrst team Sando Nicely Waltman and Bange could be relied upon when ever they were called upon to fill in Such was the team that represented Hanover Hlgh in occer during the 1923 season One hundred tudzr -- i .
