1947 -9- -nal SENIOR CLASS HISTORY . Everyone is always interested in the graduating class and wants, to know what they have done during their four high school years. I shall relate to you some of the more important social and educational activities. I On September 19, 1958, thirty students enrolled as green freshmen in Hanover High School. They were as fol- lows: Albert Adams, Marjorie Barker, Ruth Ann Bovard, Lee Douglas, Raymond Duke, Doris Duke, Inez Gassert, Vera Gas- sert, Bill Huber, Nancy Hyatt, Ruth Kerr, Wilma Lowry, John Matthews, Lavenia McClure, Ruth Thomas, Harriett, Thompson, Della Tull, Loris Williams, and Jean Wilson from Hanover Township. Ethel Mary Bkzok, Alta Burdine, Pheoebe Chitwood, Leonard Comingore, Glen Gray, Inez Gray, Viola Hendlon, Charles Hensler, Laverne Loma, Grover Lowe, and Edwina Owen from Republican Township. Bill Hube r was one of our cheer leaders for 1958. He also won first pla ce in the District Music Contest and third place in the State Contest. Grover Lowe was elected president of our Freshmen Class: Edwina owen, vice president: Glen Gray, secretary: and Leonard Comingore, treasurer. Mrs. May was our class sponsor. During our freshmen year Verna Jones from Saluda en- tered our class. Inez Gray quit school. Leonard Comingore and Ruth Thomas moved away. II In September 1951, only t entyusix silly Sophomores returned to Hanover. Lee Douglas had moved to Madison dur- ing the summer. . . Grover Lowe played on the basketball team that year and received a letter. He went to the District Geometry Contest and placed fourth in the District Latin Contest. Wilma Lowry was a cheer leader. Bill Huber again placed first in the District Music Contest and went to the State Contest. Ethel Mary Black was elected president: Harriett Thompson, vice president, and Edwina Owen, secretary and treasurer. Mr. Brown was our sponsor. are 9-aaanstanef

- s fs iv 4 2 Now as we pass through Indianapolis, news is spread about that an accident has occurred and we hear that the one injured is VIOLA HANDLON. We break some speed rules and arrive at the hospital, where we find MARJORIE BARKER, in a white uniform taking care of Viola. While talking to Marjorie we learn that Viola had spent the day shopping and wss on her way home. It seems as though she was in too big a hurry. , Speeding down the road we hear a siren. We stop and the cop rolls up beside us. And who else could it be but JOHN MATTHEWS, we just can't imagine John being a motor cop. We bet he lets all the pretty girls go without a ticket. , Passing through Greenfield, lndlana, we see our old pal, MARY LOU STCRIE,entertaining a group of ladies in her lovely new home. ,Talking to her we learn that she is mar- ried to a successful lawyer. Who ever thought it would be a lawyer. A veil floats quickly across our vision and reveals an institution of hirher learning, Indiana University, a college of high rating and is very honored to have on its faculty ETFEL NAPY HLACK, Latin teacher. U Arriving at a familiar looking city we recognize Louisville. We mo to visit WELS. While we are going into the studio we see EDHINA OWEN, in front of the michrophone Talking to her later we learn that she is employed as an we doubt if you will make announcer for their most important programs. We hear a cheery nHellon and looking up we see none other than PHEOEBE CWITWOOD, selling tickets. We learn ing only until Prince Charming comes Our scene changes again and we Hawaiian Islands. We see getting off to greet Still it HTENSLER . although all the girls a face that looks awfully familiar to the boat, and anxious must be Oliver.Hardy, us--why 1t's CHARLES Wc're glad you finally joined the Navy, Charles, food, with all those girls around you. As we go back to Chicago we notice a sign in front of a fashionable club which roads, U A Lecture on Romance by RUTH ANN FOVARDH, who is now known as a great lecturer and public speaker to all the girls on romantic subjects and nHow to catch your mann. G -1 94 v , , .-.-- as-I III We returned to school in 1940 as Jolly Juniors. This year we lost another of our classmates. Inez Gassert moved to Central. We also gained a new student, Mary Lou Storie, whose home was in the proving ground. This year Loris Williams was a cheer leader. Bill - Huber and Grover Lowe received sweaters for playing on the .first team. Albert received a let er and Glen Gray play- ed on the Second team. Raymond Duke was the student manager of thc team. Wilma Lowry won second place in the county typing con test. Bill Huber agreed to substitute for a member of the senior play cast the day of its presentation. He did a swell job, too. Grover Lowe won second place in the Dis- trict Latin Contest and went to the State Contest. We took the senior class to Louisville for the Junior Senior Prom. Everyone enjoyed the trip. Our passports to the dining room were very funny, but some of the pictures taken of us in grade school were quite embarrassing. Our class play, nBig Brothern, was a great success. The cast was as follows: Mrs. Crewe. . . . . . . Vera Gassert John Crewe. . . .her son. . . .Grover Lowe Lyle Crewe. . . . ...her son. . . . . . . Raymond Duke The officers that year were: Ruth Ann Bovard, presi- dentg Charles Hensler, Vice-presidentg Nancy Hyatt, secre- taryg and Lavcnia McClure, treasurer. Mrs. Jones was our sponsor. IV Twenty five dignified seniors returned to Hanover in the fall of 1941. During the first semester Della Tull was married and Verna Jones moved to Madison. Laverne Long was married at the beginning of the second semester and Clarence Dean entered our class. Only twenty-three seniors now remained to continue their school work. M E L A NG E'
