BASKETBALL The Hanover Bulldogs opened their 1940-41 season with a 22-19 victory over our nearest rival, the Salu- da Lions. The Lions led the Bulldogs up until the third quarter when Tull and Uebel sank field goals to tie the count at 15-15. The Bulldogs forged ahead in the last few minutes of the game to win. Tull of Hanover and Lawson of Saluda were high scorers of the game with 14 and 9 points respectively. In the second game of the season the Hanover Bull- dogs were defeated by the New Washington Mustangs 52-51. Hanover was overcome in the last five seconds of play after leading the entire game. High scorers of the game were Tull of Hanover with 19 and Kemp of New Washington with 14. The Hanover Bulldogs were invaded by the Lexington Minutemen who took with them a 34elB victory. After a hard battle the Bulldogs were unable to overcome the Minute men. The high scorer of the game was Perkinson of Lexington with nine. The Bulldogs stepped back into the win column by defeating a hard fighting Henryville crow. The game was fast and rough. LaGrange, Hanover's center and rebound man was high point man for the Bulldogs with 7, while Warren of Henryville was high scorer for the Hornets The Bulldogs continued the winning by defeating the Dupont Red Devils 27-21. This was the first time the Bulldogs had beaten the Red Devils in their new gym Tull, Bulldog forward, captured scoring honors of ther game by collecting 12. The Bulldogs fell back again after losing to the Central Wildcats 2B-27. The game was held at the Cen- tral gym. The first half was close and thrilling. Both teams playing a good defensive game. The half ended with Hanover ahead 5-4. Ucbel started the second half with a field goal. After the score see-sawed back and forth the Wildcats came through to win for Central. The one point luck nit the Bulldogs in this game and they lost to a smooth working team from Deputy 58- 59. This was one of the best played games of the sea- son. The scoring was contributed mainly by four play- ers, Tull and LaGrange of Hanover and Spicer and Owens of Deputy. These four boys scored 59 of the 77 points N 51 .9 -in

MEL A NQE g 1 1,4 scored, Tull and Ladrenge scored 17 end 12 points res- pectively for the Bulldogs, while Spicer and Owens scored 16 and 14 points resoeetively for the Panthers. The Bulldogs bombarded the Tigers of North Nadison with points in Q hectic first quarter which enabled them to win over the Tigers by e score of 27-20. Ls- Grenge started the game with two field goals in the first 50 seconds of play. Then Tull ceme through with 6 points and Uebel with 5, making it 13 to North Mad- ison 2 in the first 5 minutes of play. The score at the half wes e different ball game, the Bulldogs were unable to hit, while the Tigers were hitting. Tull for Hanover was high scorer with 15 points while Mason of North Town tallied B. Here is n game the Bulldogs came very close to los ing. It wes with the Dupont Red Devils on the Bulldogs floor and the Bulldogs came out ahead 27-25. The Red Devils staged e wonderful come beck after trniling 18-B et the helf time, This was A very'eXeiting game from start to finish. Tull, LaGrange and Uebel scored the whole total of 27 points for the Bulldogs, Tull scoring 15, LaGrange 10, and Uebel 25 Fewell was high for Du pont with 15. In this game the Bulldogs suffered the worst de- feat of the season by Charlestown ,?irates '52v2Tn The Pirates were enjoying one of their best seasons in years and they sure showed some fine basketball playing against the Bulldogs. This was the first time the two teams had met in five years. The Pirates and Bulldogs played on even terms through the first half :hut the Bulldogs were no metch for them in the final frsme.Reis of Charlestown, end Tull of Hanover were high point men in this game with l5 and ll respectively. The Bulldogs continued their losing streak by los- ing to the Lexington Minutemen by almost the sumo score as before, 53-18. In the first gems of the sea- son the Minutemen defeated the Bulldogs 54-18, The Lexington boys led throughout the game end were never in greet danger. This is one gems the Bulldogs shot 6 fouls end missed all of them. Three players contributed all of the scoring in this game for Hanover, Tull 12, Lowe 4 end Volz 2. The Austin Eagles defeated the Hanover Bulldogs in s rough and fest bell game at Austin by a score of 27- 22. Hanover was ahead st the end of the first quarter 8-5.
