A The old college was merged with the new, and taking its new name it is presently relocated just within the city limits of the northwest portion of Hannibal. For 61 years the college . was controlled and chiefly maintained by the Wyaconda Association, but in 1919 its charter was amended to enlist in a larger number of additional Baptist associations and other churches in its support and control. ln 1957, Hannibal-LaGrange College received a new charter which conveyed the ownership and control of the college to the Missouri Baptist Convention. ln . 1967, Hannibal-LaGrange College and Missouri Baptist College consolidated. Then in 1973 HLG rechartered and separated from the Missouri Baptist College. In 1975 the college was accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is readily accepted in other geographic areas. The University of Missouri has cooperated with the faculty of HLG the last twelve years in standardizing the work here. Every course is planned in consultation with the Committee on Accredited Schools and Colleges. The school now carries a wide variety of studies ranging from Theology to liberal arts degrees. While providing this amount of variety the college emphasizes a christian attitude in every area of campus life. The college also seeks to provide student services and activities which, together with the academic programs offer a complete educational experience.

I THE B GINNINC-7 Hannibal-LaGrange College acquired its name from its first location at LaGrange, Missouri. The LaGrange College was founded in 1898 by the Wyaconda Baptist Association, which was at that time composed of baptist churches in the four counties of the northeast corner of the state. The first story of the building was completed in the summer of 1858. ln the fall of that year the first school term began, but the strife between the North and South at that time halted the work of the college temporarily. During the following year, federal troops took possession of LaGrange and the college became army headquarters. ln the fall of 1866, the college resumed its work, and sometime later the second story of the building was completed.
