9. Senior Chris Wasglgo shows his fonn dur- ing a matc , by unging for the ball. True Champions! The 1986 Tennis season proved to be a time of rejoicing for the Yellow Jackets. They achieved exactly what they set out to do to win the State Championship. Under the leadership of Coach Sandy Thompson the Jackets received the revenge they wanted. ln 1985 Hanna lost to Bishop England High School in the State Championship. lt took a lot of work and determination to have such an outstanding season, Chuck Anderson was ranked at the Humber 1 position and finished 15-T 2. Bill Spake followed with 12-I5 and Michael Spake with 18-O. All threel Single players made All Conference. Chris Walsulko, also an All Confer- ence player, teamed up with Jody Moore to hold the top spots in Doubles. Scott Parsons and Bill Yarborough showed great effort and finished 11-5. Leon McClinton and Michael Bolt followed with a strong 11-1. Assistant Coach John Crosson also played an important role in the. Jackets success. Hanna finished 10-0 in the Conference, then proceeded to defeat Travelers Rest 5-O and Clinton 5-O in the first round of the Playoffs. Upon reaching the Upper State Playoffs, Hanna once again drew 5-O against Fort Mill. For the first time in Jacket Tennis history the team went through the entire Playoffs 5-O against every team played. This was an astonishing feat. Clinching first place in the State and securing revenge on Bishop England, fulfilled every players hopes for the season. First year coach, Sandy Thompson could not have been more pleased with the outcome of her first season.
