This was the theme the 1986 T.L. Hanna Vol- leyball Team used to describe their season. Still in the early years, vol- leyball has grovsm to be a widely respected sport in and around the Anderson area. Hanna is no excep- tion. Practice began early in August and the players all had one goal in mind: to become better every time they walked out onto the court. Ac- cording to Paula Roberts, that is ex- actly what they did. Of course we wanted to win, but we also wanted to make sure that we progressed and always looked' better than the day before. We had the best season we have ever had, even if we didn't make it to state, said Coach Ar- nold Howell. He added that two girls, Ginny Long and Brenda Veach, made All-Conference. Even though the Varsity lost 10 seniors, Coach Howell is optimistic for the next season because of the ability of Junior Varsity players. They all have potential and Hanna should expect to see many accom- plishments in the upcoming sea- sons, commented Howell.

During preseason Hanna was never defeated. The intensi- ty was set from then on. Fans as well as players, became more enthused about what Hanna had to offer. Although a bit rough around the edges at first, by the time the conference rolled around the Jackets were in top fonn. Many hours of practice and hard work went into becoming one of the best teams in the state. The Jackets also participated in the Erskine Touma- ment which was held December 18-20. Hanna made it to the finals Saturday night and defeated Westside to win the toumament. Preston Jones a Junior and also a starter was injured midway through the conference and was unable to play for three weeks. David Jackey the first reserve was able to fill in and the Jackets continued to play as well as ever. For the rest of the season the team kept up their expectations and showed their abilities and proved they de- served what they had worked so hard for.
